As commented in the other thread for this story... As a smokescreen for the damning information provided by the recovered computers this is an utter failure. The Farc had announced mere days ago there were going to be no more unilateral releases. It wasn't too many days before that that they had loudly proclaimed the Americans were going to be held 60 years. They won't give up Ingrid because they'll lose the interest of everybody outside Colombia.

As a smokescreen this is laughably inept. The lie is just too transparent. No cloudiness here jajaja.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see that Correa sold Uranium to the Farc terrorists for “humanitarian reasons" ha, ha,ha…

Correa is on the defensive now, he knows the international community has no tolerance for States that harbour and support terrorists

Veni, vidi, vici

Hey Cassini, what makes you decide to post something under your other id “buggy"

And how many other ids are you using to trash Uribe?

I currently see Correa as either an optimist, at best, or naive, at worst, as far as this expectation is concerned.

Why is he mentioning this so late, and why doesn't FARC mention any of this in their actual communique, dated two days ago?

They mention that "Reyes" was trying to arrange a meeting with the French president, via Chávez, in order to advance towards a solution...but they don't mention Correa in that context, nor do they claim anything was "almost" ready.

durito says on Mar 4, 2008, 12:21:

I find it ridiculous he says the 3 US contractors were also about to be freed less than a week after the FARC said they would hold them for 60 years.

buggy says on Mar 4, 2008, 13:51:

juancegomez, I do not imagine Sarkozy going to a meeting with Reyes or Tirofijo and coming back with the hands empty. He would go only if there is a result. For adavancing in discussions he sends somebody else.

Darn, imagine what a sensation he would have caused if he'd only come up with it 48 hours ago, why does it always take so long to come up with a good retort.

buggy: Yes, if it came to that and became public.

But you are assuming that the fact they were "working" on such a reunion meant that it would happen in the short term, or at all...which is up for debate. The details were probably still in discussion, to be brief.
