Copa America ...Mexico 3 Paraguay 0

Some of you blowhards who claim to know something about soccer might want to listen to the G5 for a change. Mexico is dominating Paraguay in every which way that a team can dominate. Not only has Paraguay's offense been shut down......and I mean....shut down, but Mexico's offense has taken control. They would have had 4 goals but for an offside.Yea, it's only the half, and things can change, but it will take real long shot for Mexico to give up a three goal lead. If they do, then they will deserve to lose.since all they have to do is concentrate on defense for the next 45 minutes.

Guess what? Mexico even managed to score on their penalty kick, something Colombia could not do in three attempts.

I know, they must have an abundance of faith and self confidence. According to monpirri, that's all it takes. It could not possibly be that they have a lot of talent and something called depth. I know you guys don't know "jack" about the Mexican team, but you do realize that they are playing without their three best players (Salcido, Borghetti, and Fonseca). That's called depth.

I just could not resist......for all of the fools that talk nonsense about how any South CONMEBOL team is better than Mexico. Oh......I know....Mexico is just lucky today, That must be it.

Makes you wonder how this great mexican team lost to the US in the finals of the Concacaf Gold Cup a couple of weeks ago, how did that happen G5?

0 funny, 0 helpful.

Gomezman5 says on Jul 8, 2007, 17:40:

That is a very good question. I of course, was at that game which was played here about 15 minutes from my home. But honestly, I asked that question when Mexico beat Brazil in their very first game in this tournament. Keep in mind, that game was played here exactly 2 weeks ago today, and they had to fly to Venezuela and begin this tournament with only 2 days of rest. So if anything, Mexico should have been exhausted and played poorly.

Also keep take into account that Mexico is playing without Carlos Salcido, who is a phenomenal player.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl-JBczmH8Q

They are also missing Jared Borghetti, who appears to be injured, .......again. Coach Sanchez benched fonseca, and has taken a lot of heat for doing so. (He did not attend the this tournament). I think though Sanchez has redeemed himself though.

But back to the hear of your question......look, team USA, is a very good team. I cannot explain why they fell apart in Ven. Maybe they were tire after the Gold Cup....that was also 2 weeks of steady competition, with very little rest, and maybe a combination of too much play and the heat just burnt the US team out.

Some of these characters can say what they want, but no South American team just came off of rigorous competition that Mexico did. Honestly, I am eating my words. Not with the people on PBH, but with the Mexicans in Chicago who I told that Mexico were going to get their culos kicked, What else could I think. They did not play all that well against the US. In fact there is some subtle irony here. While at the game, I was cheering for Mexico as was 95% of everyone else, and at one point, I said in frustration aloud, "You guys would think that you were playing Brazil". That generated a few laughs. Well three days later, they opened with Brazil, and they beat them, and one of they guys who attended the game with me reminded me of that comment I made only two days earlier.

Look, Mexico is a very good team. Their performance over the last several years bears that out. Are they great......no probably not. But, Are they one of the top 25-30 in the world...? Absolutely they are? Are they as good as any South American team, including Brazil? Yes I think so. I am really sorry Salcido decided to pull himself from this tournament. You cannot make a player play. This is not where the $$ is. This is why Brazil's Cafu;, Ronalddiho, Emilson, and Carlos did not play.I suppose that is good, because had they shown up, Mexico would not have won, and the whole tournament would have probably been a joke.

In the meantime, Argentina.....with just a few minutes left, is walking all over Peru. Mexico will play Argentina.

My Prediction: Argentina beats Mexico......but they will have to earn the victory. Hey, I am for Mexico all the way, but I am not a dreamer like a lot of my fellow Colombian bretheren who cannot admit the Team Colombia is for shit and could not possibly get much worse than they are. On the other hand if I am wrong, and Mexico beats Argentina, then I'll happily admit that I was wrong, especially knowing that the anti Mexico crowd here will be utterly speechless....which they are now anyway since Mexico beat Paraguay, the same way that Pargaguay beat Colombia..........

Gomez listen. first this site is about Colombia not Mexico, I personally know this because i have posted before some very informative and useful posts but they werent about Colombia and they were deleted, so i can tell you from experience this board is about Colombia.
Second you say that your post is about Mexico being better than Colombia, well maybe Mexico at this time has a better soccer team than Colombia but Never Never should you think that mexican people are better than the Colombian people because i can tell you that will never happen. I would take Colombia and the Colombian people anyday over the Mexican people.
So let the Mexicans celebrate their soccer and in between they can show their rudness and boo Miss USA and climb over walls and swim rivers and do all the other things they are famous for.
Congradulations Mexico but dont ever think you are as good as Colombia in anything especially beautiful women.

I've neer seen a Colombian team this bad. Here's a little article in this week's Semana, by Luis Fernando Afanador. The sad truth:

"¡Fuera Pinto!

Gomezman5 says on Jul 8, 2007, 19:31:

Goodness............kudos to you Clavo ! Indeed !!

Well scotty seems to lose site of a few things. First I am Colombian. Everybody knows that. I am just not a "good" Colombian because every time I say something about Colombia that I don't like, or where I think there is room for making things better, I am belittling Colombia.....so be it. Like I said before, this site is not meant to be an extension of Colombia's tourism bureau. Also Scotty......did you just fall out of bed? Cause I swear.....you must be out of your mind. No where......absolutely nowhere can you find anything that I wrote that says Mexican people are better than Colombian people. Also, what's this line all about"

"but dont ever think you are as good as Colombia in anything especially beautiful women." Again, you are implying that I am Mexican......I'm not (in case I'm not getting through) And in two different threads last night, as well as today, I mentioned how Colombian women are much more attractive than Mexican women. Clavo and I have been joking about that for a day already....when I referred to the Mexican women as "pan assed". Look, if you hate the Mexicans just because they booed Ms. America in Mexico City, that is wrong. They were rude, but I certainly don't hold it against the entire Mexican people. You should also know that I, like Clavo, am not in favor of amnesty for illegals. Feel better ? We are talking soccer....not politics. OK?

Lastly, this line of yours..."give them a little time, they will make a come back and be the excellent team they once were". What the hell kind of goofy statement is that? You sound like some mother talking to her young son telling him that he will hit a home run next time he goes to bat, even though the kid never hit a home run in his life. Or, you sound like the Cub fans in Chicago, who after finishing 20 games out of first place. "Wait til next year." Or you sound like monpirri who says, the only thing Colombia needs is more "faith" and "self confidence". Hold the platitudes huh? Look, you are clearly a Gringo that is leaning your knowledge of soccer from the Colombian goofs on this site, who are giving you the impression that Colombia had a dynasty of great soccer. Wrong....totally wrong. They had a good decade that ended about 10 years ago....also, wishing does not make it so. Jaramillo needs to translate that article from Semana magizine.....(Colombia's most prestigious weekly) and maybe you will change your tune, instead of listening to the crackerjack prognosticators on this board. Not only is the national team bad, but there is not one iota of a sign that they are getting better. Nothing.....absolutely nothing to talk about. No real prospects.....sure Colombia has great players....but in typical form, politics is what guides who makes the team.....That Mr. Scotty is a recipiet for disaster. Simon knows it, and so do others, but who the hell are you, a gringo to come chiming in here when you don't know "jack" about the game, and the only interest you have in Colombia is talking about it's beautiful women, who, I am quite sure you, on numerous occassions have come to "know" quite well.

I can see why you are angry with Mexicans. But I am also sure you appreciate their cheap labor, and the fact that they have kept prices down in just about everything you consume because of that cheap labor. What kills me about my fellow Colombians is the fact that these people have reaped the benefits that the Mexicans have fought for. The Colombians don't have a voice in this country. Oh yea, some Colombian just elected of some town in New Jersey.......big deal. But all the gains that Latinos have attained in this country have happened because of the work by MALDEF, and La Raza and similar groups run by Mexicans. You can Google them to find out more about them.

To all concerned, let me lay the low-down. Colombia's football team is rubbish. They were horrible and suck bad. Oh well. It's the truth. However, I personally think Colombia is one of the most beautiful amazing places on earth, as a country I hope it continues to improve and show the world its stunning diversity and fantastic culture that I know it has.

I don't know much about Mexico other than what my Mexican friends here in Toronto tell me, I speak a bit of Mexican, but I do know that their football team is really good at the moment.

Scotty, I cheer for who I want to cheer for. I have cheered for Colombia before you ever even heard of place. You only found the place at the same time all the other gringos did, It was not for the fern and fauna, surf and sand.....so .......cut the shit

Also......the team sucks, and I am sick and tired of Colombia fielding a shitty team. So if these fools want to blindly want to support a team that is not worth the cost of a ticket to go see them, they can do so.

If you don't like soccer, then what the hell did you come to this thread for in the first place? Why not go to the threads you are really interested in....like the ones that have to do with Colombian girls.???

As to your dislike for soccer, well that is a way to bring us Latinos, and Europeans together. You are starting to bite off more than you can chew. You also make no sennse.....none whatsoever.

"it's long" Is two hours long? All games....are predictable...country by country.....game by game ...2 hours....that is it..two 45 min halves. If the game starts at 8, it ends at 10....Now do me a favor, tell me what American game is routinely over in two hours? not one....not one....for your info. I used to have season tickets to the Chicago Blackhawsk, 7 years I had ticket. All their home games were on thursday and Sunday nights. They started at 7:35, 3 20 minute periods That is a total of 1 hour....just 1 hour....a full half hour less than the the hour and half that soccer is played, and still I would never leave the stadium in less than 3 hours...never. Ofthen the games would end closer to 11 PM.....that is a full three and a half hours after it started. I'm 4 blocks from Wrigley Field....I have seen hundreds of Cub game...more baseball than you have seen I bet. Night game start at 7;05 PM...They rarely end before 10. Now...as to basketball.,,...that has to be the most stupid game God ever created. The entire game is played in the past 5 minutes. My friend has season tickets to one of, if not the greatest NBA team in the history of the league. Remember some guys name Pippen, Jordan, etc.....Nobody, and I mean nobody played more exciting basketball than Michael Jordan....he was a legend rivaled by none. And even then, the whole stupid game was played in the last 5 minutes. lol for God sakes...it would take 15-20 minutes to play the stupid game because of all the time outs. time out. time out, official time out. So stupid. Prior to the last 5 minutes, they would just go through the motions, jogging up and down the court, taking a shot here and there.....and you call that a sport????

One more comment, why is it the entire rest of the world has adopted soccer as their favorite game? Is the entire world crazy???? Point made

braggin rights is part of sports...always has always will be.......until next season when the cycle starts all over again....i think the violence associated with futbol is a disgrace and brings the sport down.....wasnt it in Italy they played some games and DID NOT allow any public spectators?? a few idiots will cause the game to suffer and possibly condemn the sport to TV Monitors and Flatscreens.....oh, wonderful.......and thank GOD the game of Whining has replaced baseball as the US National Pastime......jijijiji....

There are other great websites where he can root in favor of his business and his comments or his ongoing "game" would be greatly appreciated.

I believe this site is about COLOMBIA.

Gomez how do you know when I found out about Colombia? you dont know what you are talking about. maybe you were cheering for Colombia before i ever heard of it but im the one cheering for them now and you're cheering for that other place. if you want to cheer for mexico go ahead...traitor! just kidding, really i could care less about who you cheer for if you want to cheer for mexico be my guest but remember the americans beat their ass weeks ago and thats whats important.

why has the rest of the world adopted soccer as their game and not the US? hmmmm i dont know why that is. i can tell you this when i was in grade school soccer wasnt even played, we played every other sport you can think of but no soccer. later in my life when i saw soccer i looked at it for awhile and said to myself...what a dumb sport! look at those guys running around and around and back and forth and no one ever scores, they dont use their hands and they are bouncing a ball off their heads, what is that all about?and look at them always complaining and waving their arms and yelling, and when its all over the score is 1 to zero....I Don't Get It? I have lots of latin American friends here in the states and they are the same way they dont watch soccer they watch basketball or American football or baseball or something else. why? they are probably like me, they don't get it? However i do think that will change in the future because more and more of the younger American kids are playing the sport of soccer and becoming interested in it.

Sure scotty....of course you have a lot Latino friends that don't like soccer and prefer American sports. Is that a surprise? They live here, and more importantly, they are probably not first generation Latinos. Even so, it is very hard to like soccer in this country since even hockey has a better following (not much) than soccer. But....I will say this, MLS, major league soccer here in the US has grown tremendously and it will continue to grow. We are still the US. The owners of these teams have a lot of money, and as long as they have the money to shell out to obtain the best players, soccer will continue to grow, More money, means better players, better players, means more fans, and more fans means more interest.....Yes, it's that simple Beckham's signing with the Galaxy is an example of that.

The Chicago Fire just signed Blanco.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/soccer/fire/chi-070627arroyaveins...

I might also point ot that Chicago Fire attendance is in the area of 15,000 per game. There are many other pro sports teams that cannot even draw that...

America Won....I was there, so I should know. They won 2-1 on a very controversial PK call against a Mexican player. .....The play that gave the US that PK has been debated ...throughout the soccer world. I blame the Mexicans however. The ref was from Guatamala, and relations between Guatamalans and Mexicans could not be worse. The Mexicans should have never allowed a Guatalmalan to ref that game. FIFA, in their devine wisdom should have known better.
