COP - Colombian Peso Exchange RATE hit 1801 today briefly

Any predictions on how low the dollar will go with respect to the Colombian Peso?

Comments from the peanut gallery please!

Today the market closed at 1821.50, and let me tell you that sucks! If you have your money in the states and your living on dollars your still doing better than many colombians. However when the peso/dollar exchange rate drops 5% its like watching someone take 5% of your savings out of the bank... OUCH!

Well im sure were better off spending billions in the war in iraq than worring about our ecomony...

The Canadian dollar is for the first time stronger than the US dollar! OOOPS hello something bad is happening out there.

in 2006 the peso dollar exchange rate was briefly at 2,600 pesos for 1 dollar! Look how far we have dropped in a couple years.

So far it is still much cheaper than living in the states, but we have some serious inflation to deal with in Colombia as well.

When we first moved here in '97 the rate was more than 2800:1 It sure does hurt!

Canadian dollar was always stronger than the US buck when I was a kid. If the US would just get out of Iraq, the US dollar would not be taking such a beating.

............the Colombian econmy is headed in an upward motion for at least the next ten years to fifteen years......................The peso will maintain a nice steady 1500 to the dollar..............although it will probably take another 12 months to find that level............Colombian exporters will adjust to the new levels and will maintain competitiveness and our balance of trade with the US will improve hugely when congress finally ratifys the current TA sometime around 2009......................there will be a workable peace with FARC possibly as early as 2010............and the resulting peace dividend will be another huge shot into an economy which by then will be growing at anywere between 6 and 9%........................memories of being able to buy an apartment in Poblato or any other upmarket neighbourhood in Colombia for $100,000 US will be just that......memories...........

Not quite: 1997 starting with January 1, 1997 and ending with December 31, 1997.
1,027.06 1,074.24 1,062.16 1,060.65 1,075.18 1,082.37
1,102.40 1,132.70 1,222.49 1,262.89 1,294.56 1,296.70

The average for that year, 1997, was 1,296.70. The only time it got that high was in 2002/2003. The high point was 2,959.01 in March of 2003. I can remember when it was, for the year, like an average of 100/1

Well the dollar is weak, however we need to keep in mind that the COP-USD ratio is not only due to the weaker dollar but also the stronger COP. THE COP has been stonger against other currencies, but the winners are definitely the Euro, British pound, Canadian and Australian dollars.

I just want to be in every Colombian Peso thread. I think Ray is optimistic in how long the peso will hold at 1500.

Nooooo.................assuming everything comes to pass......It'll hold a nice steady 1500 beginning sometime around August of this year............I would'nt envisage there being much change for a year or two after that..........any change will be a slow upward change.......1450........1350...........1200..............but this will be arrived at slowly.............nothing like the race to 1500................
