Coordinates revealed to Chavez

So it has been anounced that the whereabouts of Clara and Consuelo have been revealed to Chavez. Rescue should be soon. Uribe took a lot of heat for his "premature" disclosure of the suspicion that the child was not in Farc hands. But, do you think that either Clara or Consuelo would be alive today if the Farc were not made aware the government had this information? What was the chance the Farc wouldn't have killed them and blamed it on the Colombian army which they claimed were impeding their efforts as the international delegation was clearly becoming impatient?

Let's hope everything goes well and these ladies are soon with their families.

Btw, Uribe HAD to reveal that information which was premature only for farc and Chavez.

Although the High Commissioner for Peace and the Defense Minister had already said the government wasn't completely closed to further attempts (which contradicted other statements from the Foreign and Interior Ministers in particular), Colombia has in fact approved this.

Colombia approves hostage mission: Red Cross

Wed Jan 9, 4:04 PM ET

BOGOTA (Reuters) - Colombia's government on Wednesday approved a mission sponsored by Venezuela to free two hostages held by leftist rebels, said a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

"We will participate in this humanitarian mission, which was announced by (Venezuelan President Hugo) Chavez and approved by the Colombian government," said Yves Heller, spokesman for the Red Cross in Colombia.

The mission is expected to take place on Thursday.

I'm going to turn blue for holding my breath so much.
Hope it works out this time. It would be nice to see Clara together with her son again, free and living as a family . Consuelo has had a rough time too, we forget about her.

Cheers,

Two Venezuelan helicopters landed in southern Colombia on Thursday to pick up two women who have been held more than six years by Colombia's largest rebel group.

The sensitive operation organized by President Hugo Chavez began after the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, sent him the coordinates to pick up Clara Rojas - an aide to former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt - and former congresswoman Consuelo Gonzalez.

Journalists saw the helicopters painted with International Red Cross markings touch down at a local airport.

The helicopters are in San José del Guaviare now. Aboard the Cuban ambassador, a Venezuelan minister, people from the Red Cross, and apparently, Piedad Cordoba.

Están bien de salud. Las naves se dirigen en este momento a territorio venezolano. Según el mandatario venezolano, se enteró mediante una llamada telefónica.
