consulta

hi....Arriving Octuber in Colombia for 8 months in a effort to try to get some comprehension going ....I have a appointment with a well recommended plastic surgeon but I have to pay a fee of about $50 for the consultation.
Is this normal or a gringo tax..?
I have been subjected to many of these types of "taxes" over the years in central and south america.
..and why is the cost of renting a apartment so expensive in Bogota ?..crazy prices ..higher then my city in england.

Mmm.,,, A 50 dollar consultation for a plastic surgeon is a more or less standard fee although it's a bit higher than usual but don't think they're fleecing you.

You can get a nice 2 Bd furnished apt. in the north for about 1.5 million pesos which is roughly 600 dollars. Remember that that area is pretty expensive. Talk to other real estate agents and try to find something cheaper. They're probably offering you a thing called Apartahotel which is basically a long stay hotel room and those are pretty expensive. Tell them you want a standard 2 bedroom apt with basic furnishings.

$50 appointment fee seems ok Especially considering that you are seeing a medical specialist and bearing the full cost (ie. not subsidized healthcare).

Apartasuites I don't know the exact location of that building but it's surely along Calle 97, the trick is to know what's the intersecting avenue, if it's close to Avenida 15 then you're close to a main thoroughfare full of shops and everything.

Apartments and Plastic Surgeon Hi:
We rent rooms and an entire apartment. See www.welovebogota.com. I think our prices are reasonable compared to others. I had some plastic surgery done and I certaintly did NOT pay for consultation. I had extensive cosmetic dental work done and did not have to pay for consultation. The plastic surgeon I went to speaks perfect English and he was happy to get my business. He also charged me Colombian prices. You can email me if you want any further info.
