Concert in Barranquilla

For the "Dia del amor y de la amistad", I thought I’d treat Nelly to a concert.

As luck would have it, there was a scheduled concert at the "Ferias del Caribe" hall in Barranquilla (CALLE 72 # 65) with such big shots as Dany Daniel, Silvestre Dangond and Peter Manjarrés.

Tickets were way overpriced (by Colombian standards): 60K ("General”" and 100K ("VIP").

Since the tickets said "8 pm", I naturally got there at 7:55. That proved to be a mixed blessing. On the one hand, we were at the front of the queue and we managed to get a very good table near the stage, on the other hand, the doors didn’t open until 9:30pm…

The place is huge (it’s an ex clothes shop confiscated by the government from a narcotraficante). The air-conditioning is truly excellent. The sound equipment must be around the 300-400 decibel mark near the l/s – far too high to be pleasant over several hours, but that didn’t seem to bother anyone!

The place advertised “Licores a los mejores precios” (Old Parr 750 was at 250K and Ron Medellin/Aguardiente Antioqueño at 80K). Food was non-descript and expensive (e.g. $9 for an empanada).

Still, we came for the music!

Peter eventually played at 5 am and we all got out at 6 am as the sun was rising…

Bueno pues, segun de las fotos, habia gente bailando en el piso...mas mierda, la voz de la costa. Pictures don't lie. Here in la curramba you dance wherever you want to; you make your own dance floor. kat1, I am very sorry that you don't remember how it is on the coast.

I've never seen so many fat colombian people in any one other picture or place in Colombia.
Do they cook everything in lard in BQ, like in Mexico?

What? They don't walk there? What do they do,.... roll around, from place to place?

It looks like the woman are "Twice as Nice"... jajaj... as Las Rolitas.

nothin I say is to be takn for my words, but rather for the words of Sailor Jerry.

Same as it ever was...same as it ever was, sang David Byrne. Darloup witnesses people dancing on plastic chairs and declares it the norm. Reminds me of his sensationalism around this time last year reporting about the chemical spill in the river, or more recently, his claim of 115F record high temperatures. Fortunately, "at the end of the day" he didn't write "at the end of the day" in his post, which is a welcome change. This obession with stating certain posters "have lost all credibility" is getting pretty lame, however. The Darloup bullshit meter remains fully operational. Nos pillamos.
