For the "Dia del amor y de la amistad", I thought I’d treat Nelly to a concert.
As luck would have it, there was a scheduled concert at the "Ferias del Caribe" hall in Barranquilla (CALLE 72 # 65) with such big shots as Dany Daniel, Silvestre Dangond and Peter Manjarrés.
Tickets were way overpriced (by Colombian standards): 60K ("General”" and 100K ("VIP").
Since the tickets said "8 pm", I naturally got there at 7:55. That proved to be a mixed blessing. On the one hand, we were at the front of the queue and we managed to get a very good table near the stage, on the other hand, the doors didn’t open until 9:30pm…
The place is huge (it’s an ex clothes shop confiscated by the government from a narcotraficante). The air-conditioning is truly excellent. The sound equipment must be around the 300-400 decibel mark near the l/s – far too high to be pleasant over several hours, but that didn’t seem to bother anyone!
The place advertised “Licores a los mejores precios” (Old Parr 750 was at 250K and Ron Medellin/Aguardiente Antioqueño at 80K). Food was non-descript and expensive (e.g. $9 for an empanada).
Still, we came for the music!

Dany Daniel: Great Samba music

Peter eventually played at 5 am and we all got out at 6 am as the sun was rising…

Miguel says on Sep 14, 2009, 19:34: Bueno pues, segun de las fotos, habia gente bailando en el piso...mas mierda, la voz de la costa. Pictures don't lie. Here in la curramba you dance wherever you want to; you make your own dance floor. kat1, I am very sorry that you don't remember how it is on the coast. kat1 (Moderator) (Trustee board) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 15, 2009, 03:07: I don't know I was not there, I will wait for darloup to confirm, maybe I've got it wrong but anyway I won't be surprise because in Bogota and villavo there are places where you can dance on plastic and table chairs.

kat1 (Moderator) (Trustee board) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 15, 2009, 03:14: perhaps, that's why I interpreted darloups comments like that, as I said maybe I wrong, but doesn't mean darloup is wrong too, maybe they didn't move the chairs and tables , we weren't there, aren't we? so we can't just attack someone for something that we are only assuming!

kat1 (Moderator) (Trustee board) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 15, 2009, 03:33: Sapo I leave it because as I said I WAS NOT THERE! so i can't call Darloup a liar, ok? every party is different everywhere. I seen the pictures, I seen couples dancing, some are at the front of stage dancing on their own MAKING THEIR OWN SPACE but still lots of people sitting down, maybe Darloup is right maybe many of them ended up sitting down, neither you, Miguel nor me were there. so lets stop assuming, just because in a bar in Bogota I could dance in a table doesn't mean that i can do that in all bars in Bogota. get it?

Darloup (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 15, 2009, 07:26: Kat1, it's just amazing that Miguel and Sapote still don't realize how they have lost all credibility by systematically arguing against everything I write: A Saint-Louis ex-pat who is still learning Spanish and an Italian ex-pat who spends more time away from the Coast than on it! Darloup (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 15, 2009, 08:23: ka1, nope I don't have a video (I didn't know I would have to post proofs) and, to be honest, I don't really care if the likes of Estluelita and Sapote believe me or not. Next, they'll say that Colombians didn't take they shoes off and didn't use them to clap! Miguel says on Sep 15, 2009, 13:40: Same as it ever was...same as it ever was, sang David Byrne. Darloup witnesses people dancing on plastic chairs and declares it the norm. Reminds me of his sensationalism around this time last year reporting about the chemical spill in the river, or more recently, his claim of 115F record high temperatures. Fortunately, "at the end of the day" he didn't write "at the end of the day" in his post, which is a welcome change. This obession with stating certain posters "have lost all credibility" is getting pretty lame, however. The Darloup bullshit meter remains fully operational. Nos pillamos.
