I think Colombia should make tougher for North Americans, to enter Colombia , as long as
the USA requires visas from Colombians..

DD-Why is that? How many Americans visiting Colombia Overstay their Visas for years at a time as Many Colombians do here in the US? Miami for Instance! Why punish those who obey the Laws? That would kill the Tourist Industry, requiring all americans to get visas to visit for a week of so,,,Not the best of Ideas IMHO

You are right Kat, why would a person from Col with its weak dollar and recession want to visit the States YET expect the Money(aLL THE bILLIONS) from Plan Colombia to keep flowing? I agree with you, its sheer Hypocracy,,, I hope the day comes, sooner, rather then later, that this type of Aid is halted(not only to Col but other nations as well) and retained here for use in the USA. The Money could be better spent on our Deserving Military War Vets and paying down our Deficit,,,

I'm guessing,, but I'd say one reason might be that Colombians can exchange their pesos for dollars and purchase goods and services for 40% ( ) LESS in the U.S. than they could 5 years ago?

Thanks for your Pearls of Wisdom Poco-living in an International City like Miami I never would have guessed that Colombians could pick up 40% on purchases here. Hmmmm So why don't the Merchants in the market areas accept the CP as Tender,,,,some Merchants do so with the Euro,,,

DD-What is really lucicrous is that we are borrowing this Plan Colombia Money from the Chinese thereby mortaging our own Future and increasing our own National Debt then and paying it back to the Chinese with Interest,,,

Well,, they don't but:

5 years ago,, exchange rate was 3000 pesos per dollar. or it took 300,000 COP to exchange for a 100.00 dollar bill.

Today,, the rate is, oh heck, lets say 1900 or 190,000 for the same one hundred dollar bill.

The cost to the Colombian was 110,000 COP LESS for $100.00 worth of tickets to Disneyland.

Holy bats: Things are bad, bad, bad in Florida real estate,,, hearst mansion, FORECLOSED for 22 Million,, just think,, exchange pesos, get dollars and get a DEAL,, although Gregg Norman was interested, he didn't bid, he was seen talking to the bankers,, probably a golf course? I think she had loans of 40 million,, ah,, toooo bad,, lender down. 18 Million, easy come, easy go.

Poco simply not true! The Reality of the situation is that, Yes, some Merchants are ACCEPTING Euros here in Miami as legal Tender. And this is happening in other US Cities also. Some Restuarants in South Beach&Ft Lauderdale(Las Olas) have signs posted outside "We Accept Euros" And why not??? That Merchants who took in a load of Euros last week would have made Good Money on the exchange Today as the dollar weakened to its lowest level yet against the USD!

On Florida Real Estate , True Home (single family) decreased in Value(23% approx) but Condo(miami) prices rose 11% over the same period last year! So not all is Bad Bad Bad,,,

RISMEDIA, Feb. 27, 2008-

.....Sales of existing condominiums in Florida also decreased last month, with a total of 2,252 condos sold statewide compared to 3,227 in January 2007 for a 30% decline, according to FAR. The statewide median sales price for condos last month was $190,200, down 11% from January 2007’s condo median price of $213,900.

RAAAY, My Source was the Miami Herald, 2-26-08 edition! I stand by my OP!

"For existing single-family homes in Miami-Dade County, the median price tumbled 15 percent in January to $336,800 from $395,900 the year before, monthly figures from the Florida Association of Realtors showed Monday. In Broward, the median dropped 14 percent to $314,200 from $364,500.

The condo picture was mixed. In Broward, the median condo price dropped 23 percent year-over-year to $153,000 last month.********* But Miami-Dade condo prices rose 11 percent, a likely result of the number of $1 million-plus units still selling to wealthy buyers."**********

Mike......I was'nt disputing..........I was just surprised......also................................. I had not noticed the word ............Miami................

another piece I just found...................

While Miami sales fell - 39 per cent for existing single-family homes and 41 per cent for condos - median prices remained resilient before finally weakening in December, 2007.

For the year, the median Miami condo price rose 6 per cent. But analysts expect a drop in coming months as thousands of new condo units come onto the market.

S&P: Miami leads drop in home prices South Florida Business Journal

Home prices in the Miami metropolitan area dropped 17.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007, the biggest decline in the country, data released by Standard & Poor's showed.

Las Vegas and Phoenix were right behind, with a 15.3 percent year-over-year decline. Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Detroit and Washington, D.C., all posted declines in the double digits.

Nationwide, home prices had fallen 8.9 percent by Dec. 31, ending a full year of declining prices.

The S&P/Case-Shiller quarterly index tracks the prices of existing single-family homes nationwide compared to a year earlier.

"We reached a somber year-end for the housing market in 2007," said economist Robert J. Shiller, a creator of the report. "Home prices across the nation and in most metro areas are significantly lower than where they were a year ago. Wherever you look, things look bleak, with 17 of the 20 metro areas reporting annual declines and the remaining three reporting flat or moderate growth rates."

Charlotte, N.C.; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle showed year-over-year increases in prices. Seattle's growth was the slightest, at .5 of a percent, followed by Portland, at 1.2 percent, and Charlotte, at 2.3 percent.

RAAAY, I was a little surprised myself on the article but Miami is a little like Manhattan NY real estate in this sense; Daily, we get new arrivals from all over the world coming to live here and in the case of where I live(north miami) property values are still reletively reasonable. There just aren't that many reasonable Units to buy in Miami that are below $150K but there are possibilities in North Miami. A lot of new arrivals simply only want to live in Miami due to the widespread Spanish Langauge spoken here. I bought my North Miami Studio condo for cash in '95 for $17K. While those deals are long gone, its still cheaper here then Kendall, weston, coral gables, miami beach ect. There just aren't a lot of Vacant Lots to build in anymore. A NM neighbor of mine has an old House(very small) on a 3/4 acre lot; one of the last like this in Miami period! He passed up an $850,000 Cash offer recently. Another thing that helps our Condo Values again is that "Dam Euro" LOL. The Eurpeans are flocking here to buy Condos since daily as the Euro appreciates, the Price they pay for a Dollar Priced Condo has been going down almost weekly. It doesn't get much better then this for them! We are happy to have them here in Miami(europeans)! LOL
