WASHINGTON -- The three-minute video is filled with iconic images: the final minutes of freedom for "Cesar," a commander in the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC); the look of resignation from U.S. hostage Keith Stansell as he is placed in plastic handcuffs; the loud protests of Colombian hostage Raimundo Malagon; the silence of former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt as she prepares to board a helicopter. Then, the final exhilaration of the hostages as they realize they have been freed.

MaFe says on Jul 11, 2008, 17:39: "Recent reports suggest that the security sweeps have done little to thwart coca production. The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime reported last month that Colombian farmers planted 245,000 acres of coca last year, 27 percent more than in 2006. Lcacique says on Jul 12, 2008, 14:49: I could talk about this and cite tons of info for days on end. The fact is, the Us drug policy should have been reconsidered way before Plan Colombia went into action. All of the governments own data demonstrated without a shadow of a doubt that the Plan would fail. However, it was a great source of money for certain departments of our government and certain companies that have close ties with our government. Read what was discussed in Congress when Plan Colombia was being debated and it becomes absolutely clear that there was little concern about whether or not the Plan would be effective and more concern about what states would be blessed with contracts. Our priorities are completely screwed up and it has been devastating for many people in Colombia who are voiceless and "unimportant" (campesinos). Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
