Colombia's hostage rescue plotters kept U.S. out of loop

Colombian military waited until last moments to share its plans
By Chris Kraul and Patrick J. McDonnell | Los Angeles Times

BOGOTA, Colombia - Although the U.S. government was supposed to have final authority on any plan to rescue three U.S. contractors held by guerrillas, it was kept in the dark by the Colombian military until a week before the July 2 operation to lessen the chances the Bush administration would veto the effort, said a top official close to the operation.

If it had not been for The USA's efforts, Ms Betancourt's would still be in the jungle. IMHO

Yeah, that article is a bit funny.

It is the rainy season which means sometimes a shower in afternoon, but also cooler. It's been 77-78 early in the mornings and now, a very pleasant 82 at 11:30, with a fresh breeze off the Pacific.

Living on the sea, with the cool breezes, I rarely use any of my air-conditioners, just one or two celing fans. I installed six fans, and 3 split A/Cs, thinking I would need them, but almost never do, except sometimes in the dry season.

You are in Colombia now?
