Colombias future under Hilary Clinton

There is a Clinton post already running in the friendly thread but I was wondering if we could have one concerntrating on Colombia.

What would the future hold for Colombia if Hilary Clinton became the next President?

Hard to say. She'd have to do some extensive polling before deciding what course of action to take. I hope that Colombia would recognize the new government of the Confederate States of America.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

with Ingrid Betancourt as the president of Colombia at the same time I think it could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Hey Bill let me show you the clubs without wife... Have fun in Colombia lets meet 4 brewssky and cigars smoke.

with hilary and ingrid, the first thing we are going to do as presidents is to ban prostitution in Colombia, especially in Cali.

So much for the ladies... Most prostitutes (women for whom you presume to speak) would not welcome your prurient, selfish intrusion into their personal and professional life.

oh yes they would and we'll get all their votes when we implement these special rehabilitation programs (with salary, of course) to make honest women out of them.
The only people unhappy about it would be the pasty gringos hanging out at "Chippy Chappy" Mall, but since they can't vote it doesn't matter.

Doubtful... Some of those "dishonest" women make so much money doing what they do that they would laugh themselves into a coma when they heard what you would offer as a salary... only a fool actually thinks prostitutes really want to be "rehabilitated" (at least until their looks begin to fade).

that'd be fine they can choke in their own laughter for all that I care. Anyway, if these women have so much business sense I'm sure we could find them suitable managerial positions in the rehab bootcamps...

I thought Desi, I thought you didn't have any problem with legalized prostitution, as long as everyone got paid fairly for their work?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jun 24, 2005, 11:45:

Hollywood, why on earth would you have thought that? We don't have legalized prostitution in Sweden; yes we do have prostitutes but mainly recent immigrants from Eastern European countries. Prostitution in itself is not illegal here, buying the "services" offered by them is, however, criminalized.

Mainly, I'm just playing with the idea what would happen if Colombia had a female president i.e. Betancourt and if she would make prostitution illegal in Colombia.

no, hollywood I might have said (though I doubt it) that legal prostitution is better than illegal one. Must've been somebody else.

Getting back to the original topic, I think it would probably be a good idea get Hilary one of those pulseras guajiras too, you know, the bracelet with the colors of the flag (Colombian flag that is). That way she'll still remember Colombia exists when she gets elected president.

Banning prostitution? What a disgusting idea.

Next you'll tell them what god to pray to, what they can read, who they might marry, what they're allowed to discuss...

That's all any culture needs is more government intrusion. Leave the chicas alone.

Or, make it like the USA. Make it so prostitues must work in unacceptable conditions, with high risks, health hazards, low pay... what's the logic?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jun 25, 2005, 14:23:

flaleo, methinks these girls working on the streets and in brothels are a health risk. Together with Hillary and Ingrid we'll find worthier occupations for them. I'm setting a bootcamp for reformed good-life girls in Cali in near future where they can learn usefull skills that'll benefit the society in general such as nursing, day-care, office etc. Nobody wil be forcing anybody to do anything, just providing a different life-style option for these girls who have very little choices in their lives.

Would they be so unreasonable as to refuse our rehab programs they will be confined to practice their "profession" in strictly limited quarters and heavily taxed. (vs, Reeperbahn or Amsterdam prosti quarters.)

Desi

caslug says on Jun 25, 2005, 14:37:

Desi..you can ban all the "gringos" you want.. But the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of "customers" are single & MARRIED Colombians LIVING in COL that use them. NOT FOREIGNERS! Same with drug use in COL. In the US where prostition is ILLEGAL(99% of the US) AND there's LOTS of jobs and employment opp't. There's STILL women that VOLUNTARILY go into it, plus you have the entire sex industry. What's the different between a porn actress that's PAID for having sex on camera and a Prositute PAID for having sex in HOTEL room? Good luck trying to BAN porn.

Porn actress and Hookers work for the same reason, EASY MONEY! Heck if there was a huge demand for sex from WOMEN, TONS of guys would be doing it! A typicaly shop girl in COL makes what? 400-500k peso a month? Prostitute in COL can make that in a night or week. Try telling them to quit, you'll have pay them the same that they got before. If you do that, why not pay the undecuated men the same or is the rehab money ONLY for women? Would you pay ALL women a minimum to keep them from prostition?

BTW, there are some HARDCORE FEMINIST that actually THINK that women SHOULD be allowed to sell her "goods" on camera or not. BECAUSE it's the one business that WOMEN can DOMINATED(no pun intend). Look at the Porn actress they make MORE money than the men in the movies. Many start there own production companies.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jun 25, 2005, 14:52:

well, I'm not a "hardcore" feminist or actually not a feminist at all. I read an article recently in El Pais about this rehab program for prostitutes in Cali and I was quite impressed by the persons interviewed who wanted nothing more than learn a trade or some other skills that'd allow them to quit that line of work.

There are and will always be wome that are too lazy to earn an honest living. Yes, they should be allowed to work too, but taxed and and with health controls to ensure they're not spreading any diseases.

Casilug, I'm not, and I'll repeat it one more time, banning all the gringos! I just don't think sex industry is such a great thing.

Desi

A better plan might be to do like Indonesia or Thailand, where if you're caught w/ Drugs, foreigners or local, you go to jail for a VERY LONG TIME and if you smuggle you are executed! Irragardless of being a foreign or not. At least that way it's fair. Maybe same with prostitution, like in Iran or some Muslim countries where they throw the women in Jail or even kill her. They don't have lots of hookers in those countries. I say if you're going to ban something, lets do it right! But if you're(society) is not WILLING to go ALL the way, then legalize(decriminalize), regulated, & tax it!

As for the sex industry good or bad, that's really individual choice, why should gov't get involved? Since the beginning of time, sex is integral part and watching sex or paying for it has gone on for eons, just like people taking "drugs(alchohol, coca leaves, etc.,) to escape the pressure of life. You're trying to change basic human behaivor with LAWS. Explain to me why watching PORN is bad? Is it any worse than watching people kiss in the movies? That's basically what the US Supreme court rule, when US gov't tried to have PORN outlawed.

Banning prostitution I think banning prostitution would be about as popular in Colombia as banning Aguardiente.

"Maybe same with prostitution, like in Iran or some Muslim countries where they throw the women in Jail or even kill her."

Actually prostitution is perfectly legal in Iran. They call it "temporary marriage" and it allows you to pay a girl to "marry" you for just 15 minutes, an hour, or for any limited amount of time.

Go ahead and ban gringos. As they say on the Solo en Español forum, muerto para los gringos!!!! In fact you English-speakers ought to check that forum out once in awhile even if your Spanish is no better than mine. They're dissing you gringos bad, man! I think they think that we can't understand what they're saying but I can understand insults pretty well. After all I am married to a Colombiana who does not speak English. Do you think I can't understand what she's saying after 2 years of marriage? Give me a break! This site is a hoot.

Anyway, I'm off PBH for a time now.
