Colombians traveling to Europe

Does anyone know what are the requirements of a Colombian born person with a valid Colombian Passport traveling in Europe. Am interested in possibly flying my wife, (if all is well) to Europe possibly France and then taking the 17 country Eurailpass. Any information about visa requirements or anyone who has already done this would be appreciated. The embassy for Espana said she will need a visa in her passport from Spain.
Thanks for the info.

Visa's for Europe To travel to Europe you need various Visas as a Colombian national.

All European countries require a Visa for Colombian visitors. The Spanish Embassy can issue you with a Schengen-states visa which is good for the Schengen countries ( Holland, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, All the Scandinavian countries plus Iceland, France, Italy, Greece and Austria.) UK is a seperate Visa, so is Ireland and all the new European countries as Poland and Chech republic.

A Schengen Visa should be straight forward if you are a genuine tourist. So is the UK. The other ones are a bit more complicated

Ireland is a bit difficult as they do not have a presentation in Colombia.

Just curious What does the word "Schengen" mean? Is it a person, a city, a treaty?

FYI-A Towm The agreement was originally signed on June 14, 1985, by five European countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands). The agreement was signed aboard the ship Princesse Marie-Astrid on the Moselle River, near Schengen, a small town in Luxembourg on the border with France and Germany.

visa I'm Colombian studying in the Uk and i did travel around Europ for 5 weeks with Interail. I'm not sure about the new members of the European Comunity but definitly for the main ones the Schengen Visa is required, Now i don't know if as a turist is the same but people that have an student uk visa can travel to Switzerald, this is something you should check with a travel agency or the british embassy maybe.
If you have any questions about the cities where to stay or places to visit just let me know.

No entry to Switserland on a tourist schengen Visa Mercedes is right regarding the UK Student Visa and entry into Switserland, unfortunatly you need a seperate Visa for Switserland if you have only a C Tourist Visa for Schengen.

Good news is that the Swiss Visa is quite easy if you alreday have the Schengen Visa

What chaps my ass Not that anything can be done about it, but what chaps my ass is if you are an American, you can travel without the formal visa process ie: being granted entry with only a passport. SO I can come and go but my Colombian wife needs a "Formal" visa.

Now why can;t all these different governments (America Included) figure out if you are American, British, Canadian ect and traveling with your COLOMBIAN wife, there is a 99% chance you are going to enter and leave together. I will never understand their logic. "American? Sure, come on over, no visa needed, OOPS, Colombian wife? SHE needs a visa"
