The only colombians they date are the ones that look like thugs.

Yes, they never allowed you to bring alcohol, but Aguardiente is White, so you just have to improvise and be creative... Weigh the options.... Aguardiente in water bottle, or water in water bottle... hmmm... Heck I remember my mom and I got totally waste once.... Somehow or other we managed to walk in with a bottle of whiskey.... I don't even remember the salsa competition.... Also, it's pretty easy to get a bottle of aguardiente at the festival if you have a contact... We used to know one of the vendors, he'd bring in bottles of aguardiente and sell them to "acquaintances"... Heck, $50 for a bottle of aguardiente.. and people paid it!....

The Colombian festivals in L.A. have been getting samller and smaller throughout the years.... Last time I went, it felt like it was 5,000 or so.....

Bueno.... Colombianas in L.A. have a VERY small selection.... They normally only hood up with Mexicans around here... Because there are sooooooooo few colombian men..... I think I know 3 colombian guys.....

Estoy hablando de los colombianos que yo conozco en Queens ya que frecuento bastante el lugar y tengo resto de familia y amigos alla. Te estoy hablando de muchas chicas y chicos que conozco entre los 20 y los 27 anos de edad y todas estas emparejadas/os con dominicanos/boricuas. Ahora, los colombianos mayores de veinte y pico tienden a no querer mezclarze con dominicanos ni boricuas porque los ven como brutos, vagos y malhablados. De verdad que generalmente los colombianos cuando estamos lejos de el pais se nos alborota un nacionalismo de los mas curioso y nos creemos de mejor familia jaja.

Similarly, the only girl in the family has only dated guys from Ecuador, Spain and Colombia. She is a gorgeous twenty something, speaks impeccable English, works with English people etc, yet dating a white briton is completely out of the question.
That sort of attitude boggles my mind. I don't think I have ruled someone out just because of their nationality... but then again i suppose it has something to do with wanting to preserve one's culture when abroad. As you mentioned, when people leave their country they suddenly become more nationalistic. I don't know...
