Colombianas in NYC Part Deux

I'm resurrecting this topic because I think it's a good one.

IMO looking for Colombianas in NYC as an alt strategy to going to Colombia looking for love is silly. Well, I think going ANYWHERE looking for love is a bit silly TBH, but I just want to put a little reality out there for some of my amigos :P

There are obviously many different classes of Colombians here in NYC. There are the mafiosos (and mafiosas), there are the familial types that hardly ever leave their homes at night, there are the illegals living in rented rooms and working 12 hour shifts for $50, etc.

Since I have come to NYC I have watched a lot of Colombians repatriate. They say about 50% of immigrants eventually move on, and right now Colombians are more and more falling into the moving on category. The Colombian population is actually shrinking in the NYC area, especially within the five boros (so is the Dominican population BTW but that's another story).

If you go looking for a Colombiana in Queens you are more likely than not to find an illegal and/or a shady girl than you would looking for one in Bogota or Medellin. Here are the reasons

-Most of the Colombians who are still staying in Queens are illegal and haven't made the move back because they know once they leave they will never get back in, and so are hedging their bets by staying a bit longer.

-Most of the juiciosas you wont even really get a chance to see as they don't go out much anymore, and they are going to be mighty suspicious of anybody they don't know, especially if they have been here long enough to remember the older crazier days.

-If they have their own money, they generally won't be interested in YOU. If they are struggling, they are just as likely to see you as a walking wallet as anybody else anywhere in Latin America. Poor is poor, no matter what country you are in.

Some food for thought.

I do not think many of the Colombians who live in NY are illegal. In fact, many of them are legal and with successful business in the metropolitan area.
I still have an old phone book with all Colombian business in Queens/Astoria and surrounding areas, and couple nights a go I heard on TV that they are going to have a festival in Queens or nearby to the celebrate Independence day.

P.S. If they are some illegal they pay taxes!

Plenty of illegals here of all stripes. There are plenty of illegal Canadians and Irish too, and yes there are plenty of LEGAL Colombians with green cards, citizenships etc. But most of THOSE kinds of Colombians (probably a vast majority), are the ones either moving elsewhere in the US or simply going back to Colombia. Right now Colombians and Dominicans are moving OUT of NYC and Ecuadorans and Mexicans are moving IN.

I wish I could give you first hand view of colombianas in NYC since I live with them, but my daughters are straight up from the hood Manhattan Latinas with no ties to Colombians or Colombia what so ever . I doubt if they could point out Colombia in a map. They hardly ever gotto Queens and the few family members they met, they found nothing in common with. They think most Colombians are insignificant third world pretentious hicks from the sticks assholes. They prefer the company of Dominican, Puerto Ricans and blacks.
They don’t follow any colombiana traditional values, most important, landing that much sought after gringo (a gringo is the ultimate prize) get married get a big house and have kids. They could care less about getting married and their biggest nightmare would be having kids. Sometimes I question whether I did a lousy job raising them, but I work in a company with highly educated women with no kids, no husband, no home, all they like to do is travel.

There is so much trouble you can do Elmo , the magic of exploring will go, you would not enjoy travelling anymore and after that, what would be the meaning of your life at the end of all that travel, left with money, Old and lonely, ok maybe with a dog and two cats. I hope your daughter don't ended up like that, my daughter is half Colombian I make sure she knows her half cultura, tradition, language, and get on with the other side of the family, if one day she decided to marry a colombian so be it, there is nothing more beautiful than embrace other cultures specially if you are lucky enough to be belong to two.

Your children think that most Colombians are insignificant third world hicks, this is very sad, knowing that in their blood runs 100% Colombian, maybe they didn't have a good teaching start with you and they followed your footstep, you don't like Colombian Cultura they picked up what you said to them, you maybe poison their mind since very early age . why they 're denying their blood? Are the ashamed of being Colombian, well that is sad very sad and one day I hope they can go and learn from our country.

sorry to be so blunt but I find this kind of aptitud of your daughter a arrogant and narrow.

Colombians in New York a vital force I do not think they are going anywhere! They are having two festivals in Queens, as usual, and one in Madison Square Garden!
The best way to find out the validity of your story is to check with the Colombian embassy in NYC or become a member of a Colombian Club in that area. I used to be a member of CCC.

Kat, mi reina, for years I tried to get them involved with Colombian culture but I’ve failed big time. It dont help when the few Colombians they’ve met have turned out to be pretentious assholes, no kidding, except for Papito my friend from Cartagena, that guy is a real low life mas corroncho que ese hp no hay otro. I have to take some blame too, my experience in Colombian when I was a kid was no bed of roses and I they’ve heard all my stories, plus I’m not the most patriotic modefoque around.
I doubt very much they’ll end up marrying the pendejito mama’s boy type, I just can’t imagine them cooking and washing some modefoques underwear. They’ll just shack up like many New Yorkers do and order Chinese food every night.

Reina, my master plan for my old age (very soon) is to gotto Colombia and hire 10k peso hookers for every day of the week. When I’m no longer able to get excited even with Viagra, I’m gonna blow my nuts right off with a shotgun and bleed to death. I told my ex about my master plan and she has kindly volunteer to do the shooting.

Rubiazo says on Jun 30, 2006, 19:22:

HAHAHAHAHA Tinto, most NYC apartments have a $150 fridge from the Dominican guy operating out of the basement of a storage facility that has been refurbished a dozen times and will go on the fritz any day now. Some apartments here actually only have those little mini-fridges. A full-on kitchen with an actual oven, stovewith 4 burners, etc is the exception to the rule.

Kat, Elmo's daughters are 1/2 Colombian only. I don't think they are ashamed of their Colombian side either. It's not like Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are LESS hick than Colombians on average, as a matter of fact if anything the reverse is true!

Elmo, I'm in the same boat as you man, I'm dead broke. I got major problems lately, I think I need to blow up my house (with the tenants still inside hopefully) and collect the insurance money. Too bad half the landlords in the Bronx already got that brilliant idea and they'd probably catch my ass red-handed at this point :P
