Is vegetarianism popular? I have noticed cows everywhere I go in Colombia.

Yes, cows love to eat grass. In fact I think all cows are vegetarian. Except for the mad ones.

Food for the brain if these poor animals are vegetarian, then why do meat-eaters feed them with non-vegetarian food? is the equation vegeatarian + non-vegetarian feed = more meat? Then feeding brains to the animals should equate into more brain ...

I am too lazy to look for the other food thread ... lean pork meat is achieved by injecting non-fat liquids into the meat, lean veal meat is achieved by using hormones that also can be used on human children with opposite effects.

kernow knock, knock....lights are on, anybody home.

we have to sit down and do some serious drinking, maybe even burn one, too, and get to the bottom of this problem.

quick, get out the guaro. and cabalista and zumi, you're invited to. in fact, you're all welcome. let's get the other white meat shit faced, and call it a day.

then we can eat some of those vegitarian cows and chickens. i never saw a hormone-fed cow or chicken in colombia.

Now, talking seriously in Colombia there are not many vegetarians, we love meat just like the brazilians. I am not a vegetarian but took my dad to a vegetarian restaurant in Bogota just to experience the "veggie food",after the meal he came out of the restaurant in a bad mood.
With dad if the meal doesn't included meat is not a meal.

Colombian canibals? They are much more civilised now, they use knives and forks. I'm told they are on a strict 'kerry-clone' diet now?

Being of unsound mind and dubious disposition, I cannot be held legally liable for any indiscretions."¡El diablo me hizo hacerlo!" But don't worry, be happy.

Restaurants Plenty of Vegetarian restaurants in the big cities but a lot of the people I met in them aren't vegetarian just trying to balance there diet with a vege meal once a week.

Ask someone where one is and they wouldn't have a clue even if they lived next door to one.

In the towns its a bit harder most places will make a plate for you with eggs (if you eat them) instead of meat. Along with Salad, rice and yuca.

Most people here don't understand vegetarians though. you ask if the soup has meat in it and they will say no and floating in the middle will be a chunk of meat.

But if you are living here its easy to get everything you need to cook. But don't expect people to enjoy your cooking. They usually turn there nose up at anything I cook and go grab a burger.

You can buy soya products (ie carve, burgers and tofu) in quite a lot of places. Also the Hari krishnas are around in alot of the cities and they cook great meals.

Even the Aminals are Tortured Before I arrived, no one ate vegetables,, except maybe beets and tomatos in a sauce or made into juice with sugar in the blender.

The diet was rice, beans, potatoes, lentil beans, fried platano, eggs arepas, cheese, pasta, soup, chicken, thin sliced beef and a kind of pork.

Even the Parrot was on a diet of bird seed when I bought him. A huge Parrot eating canary seed for who knows how many years. He’d never been fed any vegetables. Why feed a bird something you don’t eat?

Feed the bird sweet corn,, they couldn’t believe it and thought it would kill the bird. NO JOKE, the girl went to the vet to PROVE I was killing the bird.. Now the bird eats all the food we eat, plus lots of fruits and vegetables. Limited seeds. Loves cooked eggs and runs over for a grape.

The humans - who knows ?? but when I’m there we eat lettuce, carrots, peas, corn, green beans and beets plus even more kinds of fruits. They couldn’t believe a person would buy and eat carrots and celery as a snack,, then again,, they don’t have Ding Dongs.

i had/have a number of friends who are vegen.... but far from the norm amongst colombians. they're basically carnivors just go down to their roots in the firtile valleys of the head waters of the amazon and their, the indigenous folks are cannibal, with a smile. in fact, a whole wall of the museo de anthropologia at the univ of antioquia is dedicated to their arts and crafts...that being, shrunken heads and bodies. men, women, children all not so tidily reduced to 'carrying size'. cute, but oh so macabre'. i suggest a visit to the university, to medellin visitors. i do however caution you to the shock you will confront while there. that being most hostile graffiti. violently hostile.

but at the university is one of the best collections of arenas betancur's sculpture. he is colombia's/ the world's greatest sculptor of the 20th century. his works are scattered around medellin, at gobernation, in a few malls, at the corner of oriental and la playa (SE corner) and in the 'off ramp' off the autopista by the university (east side, north bound) there's a wonder ful piece. homenaje a los arrilleros (sp). great work. very dramatic. and the piece in the plaza at gobernation is of monumental proportions. where else on earth is such a giant sculpture? tell me, i don't know.

so anyway, go to the univ. see the museo de anthro. there and see all the art that is everywhere present. and dodge the mental bullets that abound. have a cafe in the patio and see all the 'che' replacements.

peace.
