Colombian Tele Novelas - Sin Tetas, Betty La Fea u name it.

I find watching colombian soap operas is good aid for learning colombian slang. But trying to get the soap operas on satelite or the internet was a real hassle.

The solution for me was getting the whole soap opera on DVD.

I have ordered various soap operas on DVD from these guys

http://www.telenovelascompletas.com
They're pirated but well done all the episodes are there.
The whole Tele Novela can cost around $100 then they charge $80 for shipping.

Telenovelascompletas is Tom Power Approved.

What?!!!!!!!!!!! $180 DOLLARS?!

Anyway... if you live in the US you can get Caracol Internacional and watch the soaps they have on there.

That's too bad they're so freaking expensive, I'd love to order me some and watch them at home.

That's pretty outrageous for a pirated set of DVDs. You can buy a whole season of most US shows for $50 or so.

I was a sucker but for a differennt reason. I was in the US when Colombia played Ecuador - the games are all on Caracol. Soooooooooooo I signed up for $7.95/month for the Spanish package which included 20 some odd channels - two of which were Caracol and the other RCN. The games were not televised in the states and I wasted that money. There is an international version of both of these channels that whows something else when games are on and also you don't always get the commercials that are bbegin shown in Colombia.

So for 7.95 that month I got "Los Reyes", "Betty La Fea", "Sin Tetas", "Marilyn Devina", "Las Tacones", Late at night was the "Plata" Car delaership show with Mendez(Can't remember the whole name). All this for $7.95 a month. Sin Tetas was on TeleFuturo I think.

Also there is not tooooooo much slang on these shows and most accents are neutral Bogotá.

Los Reyes was playng recently and although I don't watch much TV that show was hands down my fav - also Juegos Prohibidos.

You can get Original DVDs from Caracol TV at the Exito stores in Colombia.
They have found out that there is a lucrative business in putting the classic Colombian novelas on DVD.
I purchased this year Escalona novela at Exitos in Barranquilla.

I agree that telenovelas are good for learning spanish, but only with Spanish subtitles. Pirated copies don't have subtitles.

The original version of "Sin tetas" can be bought for $36 $3 shipping and handling, through Amazon.com, via a third party seller.

I disagree with watching the soap operas with subtitles, you just spend the whole time reading and ignoring what people say. If you could learn from the subtitles everyone in colombia would speak english from watching hollywood movies that have spanish subtitles.

When the girlfiend pulls away from the guy an shouts "! no me tocas !" you don't need subtitles.

Certain Telenovelas are just to long for the networks to sell "La costena y el Cachaco" is 20 DVD's. Sin tetas, ventilador and Escalona are shorter easier to find at record stores. As far as trying to watch on internet, The picture quality is too low to stay interested for long.

Don't stress out so much about the price "cojela suave..." $180 for almost a 100 hours of pure costeno is cheap don't be so "tacano." ... I recommend them because the quality is good and this company delivers.

Remember, we're all in this together.

The subtitles in Spanish in conjuction with the spoken Spanish are never in synch - although the meaning is somewhat clear.

Rocinante,
Where was this? Was it Jumptv?

tompower says on Sep 24, 2008, 13:42:

jumptv shows Caracol International their international channel has old soap operas and can't show any of the current stuff because they have agreements with stations like univision to allow them to air their programming first. I found that out when i signed up for jumptv.

Uhmm... I just can't picture myself paying for it, especially since it's internet based. I'll stick with Caracol Internacional from DIRECTV for now.

As far as I know telenovelas are always long and the tv networks sell them like that. In the states there are soap operas that are still running after a couple of years.

The one I try to watch from time to time is "The Young and the Restless". I've been watching it since I was in college and that thing has been on for more than 30 years. It's sooooo bad but that's what makes it oh so good.
