MaxGringo, I presume you didn't taste the tamales from Valle del Cauca? They're simply outstanding.

Cheers,
Desi

(I agree about quindioman's buñuelos: they don't look like any other bunuelos I ever saw)

Those buñuelos, in quindoman's link, I just tried the beginning of this month. Supposedly they were made by my wife's grandma (a true paisa, from Pereriera). They served them with natiila.

... Gringo D: I've always wanted to taste a Mexican Tamal to see how much they differ to a Colombian one.

Ana Lucia & Desideria: My 2 Bunuelo purists; you have rumbled me! These are the humble rendition from Armenia...it seems we haven't quite perfected the art of frying the round ones without them exploding and bursting, thus you have these phallic interpretations, mind you it seems Pereiranos are in on the act as well according to jalf12. The taste however ladies is 100% Bunuelo goodness, Paisa or Valluno!

Macgringo: Glad you enjoyed Colombia...there are several interpretations of the Tamal within Colombia....rumour has it that the superior ones hail from the department of Tolima (capital Ibague) The Tamal Tolimense is the undisputed champion of Colombian Tamales...thought I'd put contribute a positive tidbit for Ibague/Tolima since the very few times it's mentioned in PBH it takes a bit of a bruising.

Silviat: Hang on tight there girl! I will be posting not only Tamal recipes, but a few others too once I have a few hours spare....thought I'd start contributing something positive to PBH for once. PS: congratulations on your new position!

I hate tamal tolimense it's got RICE in it! That's a blasphemy. The real tamal has p o t a t o e s in addition to carrots, peas, pork and chicken. No rice (making a sign to ward off evil)!

About the phallic buñuelos, quindioman: I just said I've never seen them before. Then again, I've never been to Armenia and only once to Pereira (shut up Desi about Pereira; your opinion about Pereira is all over page 2 in google in capital letters).

Maybe I ought to try the phallic buñuelos, I have just been delivered a bag of harina para buñuelos from a local colombian middleman here in my community. I also bought a jar of chontaduros, boy did they go fast, manjarblanco for my son with sweet tooth and cernido de guayaba to make juices.

Cheers,
Desi

mmm this thread makes me hungry Thanks for your congratulations quindioman. But it's a promise... I will be waitting for the receipe.

Oh I found a latin store closeby the other day, and we bought arepitas de choclo, platain, pulpa de lulo, mora & guanabana (my husbands adiction), platain chips...

Someone knows how to prepair sopa de patacon?

I understand is super santandereano. I should have gotten the receipe from my grandmother... too late.
