Colombian Salsa

For those that like Salsa, you would do well to check out what I consider the best Colombian Salsa group, Fruko y sus Tesos. They were formed back in the Seventies. I grew up listening to this stuff as a kid at family parties that usually lasted until past noon the next day. Us kids would eventually go to sleep at dawn only to wake up later to all the adults still dancing. Nobody can party like Colombians.

I think their best song is El Preso

About five years I saw in New York Joe Arroyo at SOBs and fell in love with his music, I believe he was Frukos singer for a while, love the hard core salsa of the 70s, I pick up a couple of Joe Arroyos CDs, my favorites from Joe Arroyo

Colombian Salsa is very unique, very influenced by Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz, Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo, Hector Lavoe, in the old days the main influence was La Sonora Matancera which had a Barranquillero vocalist named Nelson Pinedo, also Daniel Santos and Benny More, My good friend percussionist Sammy Figueroa's father was pretty well known in Colombia Charlie Figueroa.
