Colombian restaurants in California

Hi,

I will be visiting California (San Francisco area and LA) with my Colombian friend. She has been away from Colombia for some time and is dying for some good Colombian food. We have gotten some of the frozen and boxed stuff here from the Latin Markets, but it just isn't the same. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also any markets around that are just Colombian? Thanks everyone for your help! This is a awesome forum!

The above is a link to Colombian restaurants around the world. In Los Angeles I know that La Fonda Antioqueña and Cafe Colombia are good restaurants as well as Bolivar Restaurant in the San Fernando Valley but you'll have to call information it's located on Mason and Nordhoff in the city of Chatsworth. I'm sure the other restaurants are good as well but I haven't been to them.

Colombian restaurant in San Jose There is a Colombian restaurant in San Jose, about 50 miles south of San Francisco.
Its called "Reconcito Colombiano".Its at the corner of Curtner Avenue and Almaden Road.Go south on Rt 87 from Rt 280.Exit Alamaden Expressway then Curtner Ave.Make the first left on Almaden Rd.,its in the back of the shopping center on the left,by the theaters.
Its pretty authentic.Run by Colombians. They even have a little area behind the cash register where they have Colombian canned and bagged
food items you can buy.
Upstairs nearby a church out of Bogota has rented a room for Sunday services, around 11 AM I think. Its called Jesu Cristu International or something like that.Real nice people, very interesting religion which is Christian but they believe in "prophacies",part of the service you can if you want have a "prophacy" done. You ask a mental question, people will wisper in your ear what they believe to be the direct word of god.Its very possitive.
Then I think alot of people go down to the restaurant for lunch. The owners of the restaurant attend the church as well.
My ex is probably there every week,Rocio,30's,dark hair,5'-3",cute.
Even though it didn't work with us she is a nice person. We traded cities. She lives in San Jose,I live in Cali.
There is also a latin market that has a Colombian food section on Santa Clara St. around 22nd st in San Jose.

Good & Bad If your friend is 100% colombian, I recomend that you do not take her to El Majahual, because I went there and as a Colombian I didn't like their food, a partner (wife i think) is salvadorean, so the food is a bad mix of Salvador and Colombia cussine and does not have a Colombian caracther.
El Rinconcito Colombiano in San Jose that someone mention before is good, is authentic and your friend will enjoy it better, there is also a Paisa who import food and a lot of goodies from Colombia and he is located in front of the night Club the name ROCAPULCO in San Francisco pretty close to the Mission, just ask where is Rocapulco and everyone will tell you there.

Other recommendation is that you can make your own Colombian food, or pay someone to do so, and you can pick it up and go and enjoy it with your friend in your place or hotel.

I can advise you on some people in the Bay Area who you can contract food with, they are great cooks.

Have a good one!
