Police in the Hamptons have arrested a house painter on charges he sexually attacked of a woman on the beach near the exclusive Maidstone Club in affluent East Hampton Village yesterday.

According to East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen, thirty-year-old John Giraldo of Southampton was arrested after apparently confessing to the crime as well as to two other sexual assaults and numerous exposure incidents in the Hamptons over the last three years.

Giraldo, a native of Colombia, will be arraigned later today at East Hampton Town Court on charges of attempted rape, sexual assault, and unlawful imprisonment stemming from yesterday's incident.

Police said the 61-year-old unidentified woman was walking along the beach at around 8:30 yesterday morning when a man, nude and wearing a ski mask, suddenly emerged from the sand dunes.

He threw her to the ground and began to attack her when he spotted a male passerby coming to her aid. He fled and the good samaritan called police.

Police began an extensive hunt for the attacker in one of the most affluent areas of the country; bringing in dogs and helicopters, canvassing houses, and setting up checkpoints to stop every motorist in the area.

Chief Larsen said as part of the investigation, detectives went to question Giraldo who had been a prior suspect in other incidents. After they apparently caught him in inconsistencies as to his whereabouts, he allegedly admitted to the assault and the other crimes. Police found the ski mask which he discarded along a roadway.

nude? "when a man, nude and wearing a ski mask, suddenly emerged from the sand dunes."

Doesn't a ski mask count as clothing?

Caballista asks a very good question.... God where are you!!!!!!?????

I keep praying and.... no answer. It's as if God is on vacation, allowing these terrible things to happen. Haven't really had news since the Tsunami which was, like, totally unnecessary.

Albatross, some people say God is a woman... The Tsunami could have been just a bad case of PMS... but how to explain the other stuff that happens every day in Colombia?
