Colombian People

Hello,
I have been living in Korea for a year now and am really fed up with rude and racist people.
This culture is so cold. I just want to go somewhere where people are easier to get to know and get along with. I am a 40 year old and I am a very average kind of guy. I am the quiet and easygoing type. Can anyone tell me how well I might expect to get along with Colombians? Are Colombians racist? Do they hate Americans? Are they combative? What kind of guy do the women like? I would appreciate sincere answers. You know these are the kind of things travel books don't talk about, so I hope you all understand my asking.
Thanks

I've heard there's a lot of racism in Korea. Black folks are especially hated. How sad!

Heres my secret: if youre gonna dance with women, and you cant be bothered to, go to a really busy, packed out dark night club. You can swing your shoulders and noone will ever know your feet are glued to the floor the whole night ! :)

I am a US American and I have traveled to Colombia 3 times in the past two years... staying anywhere from 1-3 months at a time. I have never had any problems with anyone. In fact, quite the opposite... everyone has been amazing starting from the flight to Bogota. I have met some really great friends on the flights I have taken from Miami to Bogota. Everyone is very warm and welcoming. Hahaha a lot of time we like to play.. lets get the gringa drunk on aguardiente on her first night in town... good game... lost my shoe.. but it was fun... i think hehehe

Well, your posts made me laugh, but I think I get the picture. I am white. Korea is one place not worth your time.Anyway, I will probably come to Bogota later this year. I just want to be able to walk down the street and feel comfortable and make a few friends. Hopefully find a nice GF.

The most unbelievable comment was Morphus saying his friend from Puerto Rico spoke perfect Spanish. That's like saying "my friend from New Orleans (Knawlins) spoke perfect English." That is rare!

mj1968, if you got the picture based on what you've read on this thread then you really haven't gotten the picture at all..
Morphus, Elmo....as your guides to "what the Colombian people are like".....oh, dear.

There's good stuff here about Colombian people, though, read "random thoughts..." thread, there's some valid observations about Colombian people. Other threads too.

Cheers,
Desi

I've flown on Korean Air headed over to Angeles City, PI. Before a few times. The only nice Koreans I've met are the stewardesses. The rest of the Koreans ovr in that part of the world are snobish/rude people. IMHO Colombians are more friendly.

I fully understand gringoinbogata. I hate to seem naive but I still think one can find a "good girl" Nowhere is perfect but home. All 3rd world countries are similar. You have girls thinking they can take you for a ride. The best you can do is protect yourself against such things.

Rob77 says on Oct 27, 2007, 05:44:

What GIB described of visa hunters, etc., is a legitimate factor for gringos. But it is also a stereotype. Not all women fit it.

There are plenty of women interesadas in the US as well. And you have to use your instincts to weed them out. Gold diggers tend to be inpatient and materially focused. If you want a woman to want you for your heart, don't try to win them over by splurging on them. Men who come down here also mislead women by spending far more than they normally would at home. If you are looking for a genuine partner, and not just chucha hunting, no matter what country you are in, you need to take it slow and let the relationship stand the test of time.

I am sure that the failure rate for relationships between gringos and Colombianas is highest for the men who come down here looking to find a gal quickly and head back to the US. The kind of relationships based on hunting in some bar or club. Those relationships have little substantive basis. They are destined to fail.

On the other hand, if you are fortunate enough to stay in Colombia long term, you will have opportunities to meet many women of different backgrounds through your daily life, without even trying. Women who were not out hunting for a gringo! Those serendipitous relationships, given time to develop, may produce a more lasting future in either country. Think about it, not only does the time give you a chance to really get to know each other, including the cultural and habitual differences, but also gives you a chance to touch on the kind of situations that would arise from living together in either country.

I don't know how anyone could expect a legitimate lasting relationship to come from the drive-thru encounters some men come down here for, especially the ones who use agencies!

PS. OP, sorry your post got hijacked!

If you are bummed out in Korea, chances are you will never make it in Colo.....skip it. Stay in USA. Don't sound like you relate to foreigners well. Describing yourself as average is interesting....nothing worse than an average American (USA). We used to call them the Average Asshole when I was in high school....even then we had some insight to a dickhead. There are approx 40 million people in South (you are in the southern part right Hee-Roh?), you found them all to dislike you? Americans disliked in S. Korea are generally LOSERS...I was 39 months in-country....hard to be disliked there unless you really standout as a deadhead. Colombian's will really see thru your sad US ass if the Hermit Kingdom could. Quite, easygoing....lick my Colombian shoe...boy.
