Another site is AJR,(American Journalism Review) at http://www.newslink.org/news.html

"Brevior Sltare Cum Deformibus Mulieribus Est Vita!" .

cassini77 says on Jan 23, 2008, 08:04:

All these newspapers are right-wing (perhaps Semana a little less).
It is called democracy.

jorgegdiaz says on Jan 23, 2008, 08:20:

Cas77 They`re not right-wing. Right-wing is (was?) La Prensa owned by Pastrana`s family.
May be you`re confusing siding with Uribe with being right-wing.

Left-wing are:
http://www.pacocol.org/es/Voz/index.htm
http://www.anncol.nu/ (although it changes the host country often ...)

Right wing... ish

I'm yet to find one completely siding with Uribe, which is kind of surprising given his popularity. El Colombiano is about as close as you can get.

There are of course several government sites that maintain fairly up to date news sections:

http://www.presidencia.gov.co/
http://www.policia.gov.co/
http://www.ejercito.mil.co/
http://www.cgfm.mil.co/
http://www.armada.mil.co/
http://www.fac.mil.co/
http://www.mindefensa.gov.co/
http://www.mintransporte.gov.co/
http://www.minhacienda.gov.co/
http://www.mincomunicaciones.gov.co/
http://www.dane.gov.co/
http://www.gobiernoenlinea.gov.co/

Great posts! I really appreciate all the links, now I'll always know where to get the info I am looking for about Colombia.

cassini77 says on Jan 23, 2008, 12:41:

Uribe is not right-wing ?
Correct, in Europe he would be categorized at the extreme-right.
But all these news papers are not extreme-right. They are simply right-wing as they always defend the interests of the high stratums and the capitalist way of development.

Anncol is far-extreme-left (but some people say that FARCS are not anymore at the left).
Voz is extreme-left or left (in europe the communist partys are more left than extreme-left).

El Polo can be considered at the left (it is a federation ranging from communists to moderates) but it has no newspapers and all the "great" newspapers here quoted practically never speak from the Polo (only when there are dissensions inside).

near as i can figure, anything short of the governor standing on the street corner handing out checks to everyone who passes, on the way home from their grueling 35 hour work week is extreme right Clueless' mind...

Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab

jorgegdiaz says on Jan 23, 2008, 13:44:

I never said Uribe wasn`t a rightwinger, but those newspapers are not.
On the other hand, ANNCOL is not left, they`re terrorists
Anyway, before this get too political, therefore demoted, I hope this helped you. I think what you were looking for was for news, ads, etc?
By the way, the site about world newspapers was great !
I found a couple of Brazilian newspapers that will help me improving my Portugese.

juancegomez says on Jan 23, 2008, 13:44:

I think, without having the time to describe each and every one (not that I read all of them either), most of the mainstream media may be better classified as either center/center-right rather than just "right".

However, real or merely perceived ideology doesn't really tell you much, especially if you don't actually sit down to read for yourself.

EL TIEMPO, for example, has published plenty of articles critical of Uribe and the government, the parapolitical scandal, etc. even though it supported Uribe's reelection. Ideological classification doesn't tell you anything about the nuances of their actual content.

EL TIEMPO is not a blindly pro-Uribe paper or what have you, nor is SEMANA blindly anti-Uribe even though it prominently asked for ex-DAS Director Jorge Noguera's resignation and has published many articles on parapolitics as well, to name just one case.

On the other hand, something like ANNCOL will almost never publish even the slightest criticism of FARC, unless they're quoting an article from someone else. It's too much of a propaganda piece for my liking, even leaving its specific ideology in the background.

sloopskipper says on Jan 23, 2008, 13:44:

Check my local paper, www.prensa.com here in Panamá. They cover Colombia/Venezuela, and I don't think is right-wing.

Gator says on Jan 23, 2008, 13:55:

First, Cassini77, enlighten the ignorant masses by giving us your definition of "right wing."

"Brevior Sltare Cum Deformibus Mulieribus Est Vita!" .

cassini77 says on Jan 23, 2008, 14:11:

There are always two ways of seeing the life.
One may consider that we can only undergo and we can nothing against a natural order of the things which always facilitates well born and fortunate people.
One may think the contrary, that we can act on our fate and that the fate condemns nobody from the birth to lead a miserable existence.

manINred says on Jan 23, 2008, 14:15:

Well cassini, the latter view certainly paints a more appealing picture.

Let's just say that Uribe is the saviour :)

One more site that keeps coming up lately is

http://www.noticias24.com/actualidad/

seems like a news aggregator from all over Latin America, but mainly Venezuela and Colombia.

The comment section is always a fun read too.

gato-bandido says on Jan 24, 2008, 06:16:

How about this one:

"Diario brasileño afirma que Marulanda tiene un cáncer terminal"

LilaM says on Jan 24, 2008, 08:39:

What i can say about it is...

THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF SEEING THE LIFE

One is the difficult way
And the other one is the easy way.

So Choose....

In spanish... Para que hacerlo fácil, si difícil también se puede.....
