Colombian news headlines | UN "shocked" about increase coca, opposition wants one presidential candidate, possible death Márquez investigated, "FARC will have 3000 men in 2009"

Hi guys, here's the latest news from lovely Colombia

The United Nations Wednesday called the explosive increase of Colombian coca fields "a surprise and a shock". The amount of cultivated coca fields in Colombia grew over 25 percent in 2007, despite joint efforts by the Colombian and U.S. governments to eradicate the crops.

It's a never ending saga. Even if they get rid of the FARC some other group will rear it's head and take over the business of selling the juice. It's just all smoke and mirrors. IMHO

the way corn prices have gone up in the world, maybe you can get coca farmers to farm corn.. Hell, it is almost worth as much!!! I think Coca is the only commodity, legal or not that isn't in short supply!!

I think I just solved the world's food problem.. Job retraining for coca growers!! It just kills me that in this world, some poor soul, somewhere, can't get enough to eat, but some addict on the streets of NYC can always ge blow.

I think the US policy of drug irradicaton has been pretty lame, since you can't stop production until you deal with demand, and though I don't agree with the use, nor do I condone the use, of illicit drugs, who can blame a coca grower who can make 100 times the amount growing coca than what he can make growing corn, rice, beans, etc???
