Here are a few Colombian songs I have come to like, but don't necessarily fall into the "best ever" vallenato/salsas (which I would be highly unqualified to pick). I hope you enjoy them, but if not, indulge a poor gringo trying to learn a bit of Spanish and culture. Some might have been posted before, disculpeme.
Mach & Daddy -- Pásame La Botella
(Sure, they're Panamanian. But try to go anywhere in Cartagena and not hear this catchy little number.)
Esta Vida -- Jorge Celedón, Jimmy Zambrano
Como Te Extrano -- Leo Dan
Luna Nueva -- Carlos Vives
Me Echaron del Rancho -- Octavio Mesa -- (mistitled Merceditas)

Man Tequila says on Oct 13, 2007, 16:05: Colombiche already posted Casa en el Aire, which I like although it took me ages to figure out Adaluz was a person's name (a la luz? imensidad qué?)... No point reposting that one here when she knows enough Colombian music to know which songs actually might be "best". I was surprised how hard it can be to find a particular CD in Colombia, in four big Bogota music shops the selection of Octavio Mesa CDs was pesima, limited to "Relajos Del Arriero, vol 1", although this does contain all of his songs I have ever heard of (with my limited exposure). Colombiche says on Oct 13, 2007, 16:46: I love La Colegiala but I can't find a good version done by a colombian artist on youtube, so I'd rather not post a mediocre, badly done, non colombian version of it. No me den trago extranjero, que es caro y no sabe a bueno.... (Rafael Godoy) |

Man Tequila says on Oct 13, 2007, 18:31: Another nice cumbia. I find I am at a disadvantage given the immense volume of good Colombian music and the fact I know so little of it. I do know all the words to the songs I posted, but even finding lyrics to songs can sometimes be hard. One of my favourite things about Colombia is the way people are always singing along to cualquiera canción... It would help if you posted the artist and song name to save me the peñita of seeing the video on YouTube proper. You must remember some of us are hearing these songs for the first time and do not have the background we would have of, say, American 60s rock and roll songs which we could easily identify from a few notes... I would like to ask some of you native Colombians to post some of the most beautiful classics of Colombian music, some that you love, because I am a newbie on Colombian music, and would like to be exposed to more of the good stuff. admittedly, arriving can feel great too |
