Colombian music is the next wave

There are some really interesting things going on with music here with groups combining traditional rhythms, electronics and new arrangements. I predict that this music will explode on the international scene next year. It is just too damn good to keep a secret. Here are some of the bands to check out:

Sidestepper
– Fronted by Brit-expat Richard Blair of Realworld records Sidestepper is a mix of salsa, reggae and electronica. Already big on the world music scene but not as popular as they should be.

Cabas
– Another artist who is already pretty big. Barranquilla native who rocks out with a fusion of Cumbia, rock and roots.

Polaroid
– Medellín-based jazz-Andean-cumbia-electronica fusion. Rolling Stone S.A. gave them their highest rating in a recent review. Look for them to get signed to a label like Luaka Bop any time soon. Definitely worth tracking down.

Curupira
– Rhythm heavy roots with a strong Pacific/African influence.

Mojarra Electrica
– Jazz with Colombian and Eastern European influences. Reminds me of Colombian klezmer music.

Any further suggestions?

I need some mp3s and contacts I run a small internet radio station and we do banner exchange with the bands. Since one DJ is in Brazil we have good exchanges with brazilieam bands. I am seeking Colombian bands now.

Our main music genre is Rock, Metal, Goth. According to Rock Detector there are many Colombian bands that play this music, but I can't find any of their music.

Any help is appreciated. I would also welcome a DJ in Colombia to do a show for some hours every week, broadband and basic English knowledge is required tho.

Cabas is already getting popular in USA. They have really well produced videos.
I am listening to a CD by an old timer Celso Piña right now but he has incorporated a lot of new sounds and is working with groups from Mexico and Colombia. One of the tracks on this CD is with Cabas.

There is a group called Superlitio out of Cali that I like a lot. I think they were nominated for a Latin grammy.

What about Bloque from Bogotá. Aterciopelados is from Bogotá too.

Sidestepper is a British based Colombian band.

There are groups in Europe that play Colombian rythms in modern rock such as Dusminguet.

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

PS: Alex did the MP3 come through OK?

Lionheart the groups I posted aren't the genre you are looking for I think. Supelitio does a bit of the grunge stuff, but mostly trippy hippy stuff.

They been playing a lot more vallenatos in one of the leading latin stations here in NYC. Some of my Dominican buddies love that stuff, i've been teaching their women how to dance and at the same time feeling them out. you never know, always gotta be ready for rainy days.

you had lunch already???? i hope it was corny beef with cheezies.

now i'll tell you:

the champeta is a knife they use in the pescadrias publicas
en cartagena, ..this place REEKS,...and it is a very thin blade.

the dance,.. which la commandante tells me originated in the
mercado publico, is defined by the bodily contact between the
dancers pelvis.they must be so close,at all times,
that a champeta may not be inserted between them. ....voila!!

now,another one,
when i asked her about hard-on etiquette,it got...... sticky.
what about when you are asked to dance by her babe girlfriends?,
her ugly girlfriends?, her mother?...on/off switch??
sometimes i revert to the hula.
