Colombian men, from a man.
I am a straight, University-educated, California-native, married man with two kids. I lived a year in Bogota when I was in the Peace Corps. Yes, this was many years ago, but Colombian men are egocentric, NOT faithful, and love to come on to any woman any time.
I taught at a trade school, and one night my fellow professors invited me to their regular Friday-night outing, an evening at the local music, dancehouse. In Colombia, this is what one did! especially if one could afford it.
We went upstairs where the drinks, men, women, and Cumbia mixed in a mind-stirring foment. I quickly realized that it was a fashionable cathouse. In a few hours, we had filled the tabletop with beer bottles, and my prof friends had women, whom they knew by name from their frequent visits, all over them.
They were confused because I wasn't hustling. I explained in my broken Spanish that I, a married American man, don't accept whoring as appropriate behavior. They didn't get it! they were going to get themselves and me "Roberto" laid. They thought I was shy and finally arranged for a good looking woman to hustle me. I remember, in my blurred, altered state, telling her how nice looking she was, but that I didn't indulge. She had difficulty understanding "no", but finally left.
I think my action embarrassed the profs, who finally stopped their escapades, and gave in to get laid another night. I wasn't asked again to attend one of their happy outings.
The following qualifies perfectly as a non-PC cultural stereotype, which I demand doesn't make it any less true. Colombian men go berserk over American women; especially blonds with boobs (sounds familiar, huh). They'll say anything, do anything to hang onto and bed you. You will be the most beautiful woman he's ever met, at last the true love he's been waiting for all his life. Best, be he'll be seen by other droolingly-jealous Colombian men as he escorts you downtown on Avenida Septima or takes you dancing on the first floor of the hall where I kept my Colombian virginity. For some Colombian men, having a second wife in another departamento (county) is considered Macho, and is bragged over. Aniqueno men are the brunt of jokes about having two or more wives. Narino men are the "dumb" joke victims.
Don't "fall in love with one" until you KNOW he's not married, how many kids he really has. Don't risk finding out later that he's married, really not rich and important, and for god's sake, don't fall for the "I'm an out-of-season bullfighter" line.
