COLOMBIAN HARLEY RIDERS

I'm interested in doing a magazine article for a well-known American Harley magazine (where I've been working for over 27 years) about Harley riders, clubs, events, benefits, lifestyle, etc. in Colombia. If you're a Harley rider and are interested, send me a private message, I'd love to hear from you. There's no money involved just great and positive exposure.

I will EAT my shirt I will eat my shirt if there are any Harley Riders from Colombia who post in this forum. After all, this “Poor but Happy”, not “Rich and Mean”.

The Harley Riders I have seen here in Bogotá do not resemble most of the hard core Harley Riders I have seen in Canada. They look like doctors and lawyers etc. How exciting is that? LOL. They all wear helmets and have an ugly huge plastic ORANGE vest on with their license number spread over it. They look like a bunch crossing guards off duty lol. It completely takes away from the mystique of the “Cool Harley Rider”. Some have mufflers that completely muffle the sound the Harley. Pure blasphemy! In my humble opinion most of the Harley Riders I have seen here in Bogotá are a disgrace with regards to the Harley Davidson mystique. I have seen them in Zona Rosa and they all look boring to me. Personally, I think they all should have stayed with their sissy Rice Burners.

Why don't you come to Bogotá and go on a run with these people (I wouldn’t even call them bikers), or at least talk to them personally? I think it would make one hell of a story! Maybe in some Japanese Bike rag.

Golly.. ...it's too bad you can't look like a "Cool Harley Rider" i.e. an outlaw, American (or Canadian)-style, on a Harley in Colombia (you know, with leather chaps, an unbuttoned leather vest that has "PICKYOURFAVORITE MOTORCYCLE CLUB" embroidered on the back and exposes your ample abdomen and hairy chest, your salt-and-pepper beard flowing in the breeze and the helmet resting on the back rest of your bike in defiance of those sissy helmet laws) when the real outlaws in Colombia ride 250cc dirt bikes and are armed with sub-machine guns.

Who's really badder?

Sorry, I could never find the romance in the radical outlaw biker lifestyle. Trying to find it in a place like Colombia where the outlaws are so much more practical (e.g. using a nimble dirtbike instead of a big highway cruiser) seems even more ridiculous.

I guess it all comes down to who you're trying to impress.

Thanks for the input Thanks for that piece of input guys, but the truth is that there are Harley riders in Colombia and maybe not one percenters but still people who love to ride and love the lifestyle. And maybe they are like BIGFOOT, we know they exist but they are hard to find.

Good Luck... I don't mean to sound down on bikers. I think Harleys are definitely cool and I can understand how easy it is to fall in love with them.

I just think the anachronistic, "Easy Rider," Hell's Angels biker image is a bit out of place in Colombia to the point where I crack-up when I think about it.

paisa hogs? ive spent time in medellin,,and no freakin way i'd ride my hog round there unless i was very, very accustomed to the flow of traffic,,,they drive like maniacs in medellin,,,especially in the outskirts such as bello,,etc,,,crazy roads,,,no lanes,,no lights,,no signs,,,i imagine if i had unleashed my hog down there ,,the cops woulda been all over my ass just for the noise that it makes, and it would most likely draw more attention than a gringo really wants to have,,unless you had a gang with you,,,,,it would be nuts,,,,maybe after a long time i'd be crazy enough to go solo on their streets,,but in meanwhile it be much wiser to take cabs and leave the driving to the locals,,,hell,,its east enough to get ran over just walking around--none the less,,i had a kick ass time in columbia and plan to return soon,,,okie biker here sayin' keep the rubberside down and your face in the wind,,,hasta luego

Damn it! I wish I was back in Bello!!!!

rich and mean? anyone who has the perception that harley riders are rich and mean are no more well informed than the people who think that everyone in columbia is like pablo escobar,,,but if thats what you think go ahead,,,those people should visit an american style rally, just as people should visit columbia before they judge,,,and really experience it before they make assumptions,,,,hog riders are the most righteous hardworking,,and caring people i have met--most real bikers are far, fare from rich,,,or mean,,, and anyone is welcome at usa hog rallies,,,whether you ride a harley or not,,to sum it all up ,,,dont believe the hype---ride loud and live proud,,,!

Damn it! I wish I was back in Bello!!!!

I will Eat my shir Claudejack I ditto you comments. Maybe I was a little hard on these sissies here in Bogotá. You are right of course that you do not have to mean or rich to ride a Harley. However, most riders I have seen look like they are "Harley Riders." Or, they belong on a Harley. If you don't know the difference I cannot explain it. Let's look at from another angle...put a hard core biker on a 250cc Rice Burner and tell me what he looks. Like hell lol. Same as these pathetic guys on Harleys. There is just too much violence here in Bogotá for a 1% group let alone anyone who looks like a "Harley Rider." It is kind of an oxymoron...too much violence for a hard core biker lol.

I have seen many Riders who look good on a Harley...women too...yummy. But the Orange plastic vests really! Why not ride around in a clown suit lol.

And, what is a Harley without the rumble of the tail pipes. Harley has a patent this sound. You don't have to be a 1% to look good on a Harley. You don't have to have long hair and be obnoxious. You don't have to rich either. But let's call a spade a spade. Why bother riding a Harley if you look like a misfit? It is like some ugly, fat old Gringo going with a very young sexy Colombiana…..get the picture? Wait a minute …that’s me lol.

I would also worry more about the missing manhole covers and culverts that the violence! Deadly if you ride a bike and you cannot maneuver a Harley like you can a 250 cc. Lastly, these guys would likely be terrified if someone wanted to do a story on them.…everyone in Colombia is so paranoid. Personally I would rather watch paint dry than to hear about their lives riding a Harley in Bogota.

Having said all of this, if you want to know more about these guys I can approach them and ask if they are interested. Maybe I am wrong…it would be the first time this year..!!!
