First of all, it is not the safest place at night, try to go there during the day, and you will find a subculture of Colombian people that still amazes me after 10 yrs here.

bufalo says on Jul 27, 2005, 12:33: Jackson Heights used to be irish a lot more than 10 years ago. There still is an irish presence at Roosevelt and 65dr (?). Roosevelt Avenue was really bad a good number of years ago, but it is relatively safe to go at night. My white ass used to be around there all the time. The 7 train is really interesting because every stop is like going to another country - colombia, mexico, ecuador....and ending in flushing which should be renamed floo-shin. (a lot of asian). I think there was even a doc made about it. "If you don't like it - lump it, take it down the road and dump it." - Archie Bunker played by Carroll O'Connor 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Colombiche says on Jul 27, 2005, 12:57: Pollos Marios And Tierras Colombianas. Those are my fave when I go to little chibchombia on Roosevelt. Kind of loud with that darn train going overhead. I've noticed these days you see mostly Ecuadoreans and Mexicans around that neighborhood than you do Colombianos. A lot of taquerias sprouting up all over the place. Rubiazo says on Jul 27, 2005, 20:10: Ahh Roosevelt Av I used to LOVE Roosevelt. It did used to be a lot crazier when I first got here. It has been 'sanitized' since then and lost a lot of its character. Almost all of the live music is gone. There is still Chibcha and El Abuelo Gozon at 78th-79th and Roosevelt. I don't know what entertainment they have when these days, it used to be something from sundown until sunup 365 days a year.

elmodefoque says on Jul 28, 2005, 05:07: Tinto, first of all, thanks! you’ve given me FANTASTC ideas which I’m gonna discuss further with the wife. I like them all except for having my eyes poked out and having another baby. I’ll rather have someone shove a broom stick up my ass than losing my eye sight, and as for having a baby, I’ll rather have my nuts smashed with a 5 pound sledge hammer. I’m already doing the 401k thing. thanks once again, I wish I have expertise in something useful that I could share with you but the truth is , I don’t know diddly squat about anything, ok, maybe fishing, screwing burras and how to always get a woman’s chiquito, no woman that had sexual relationship with me has escaped with out getting her chiquito penetrated. It definitly has changed since my last time in NY but it still has it's flavor, just less colombians and more ecuadorians and mexicans.

And i used to FREQUENT the bayules that are now dead and gone, I know people who got sent up the river from the cleanup! I personally know lots of people involved in that game. Like I said, it sounds like you have never even been out past midnight outside of Saturdays in years!! I know very well the head bartender, una cachaquita lindisima, Kathy. I’ll be there this weekend. ElCheAmericano says on Jul 29, 2005, 06:14: Oh what happened to thee Babylon Rubiazo I remember those days like it was yesterday, but I am very aware that it is non existent these days. I remember about 7-8 years ago walking down Roosevelt Ave from about the late 90's to around the 70's having little mexicans passing out cards with addresses saying "chicas, chicas. Things did get out of hand, there were casas one after the other. I remember there use to be this place that looked like a church on the outside, how crazy is that. Also another on the beaten track around Junction Blvd and Corona Ave next to a supermarket and La Esquina Criolla, quality and affordable argentine restaurant. Damn how times have changed, DAMN YOU GIULIANI.

cali373 says on Jul 29, 2005, 09:26: Don't forget Northern Blvd. It also has some Colombian shops aroung the 80's Streets and up. Two places that I would recommend is Natives restaurant and for the nightlife "D'Antigua". the Jackson heights and Elmhurst area's of queens are not dangerous even at night but their is always room for something bad to happen in a large city. Smile if you are a thinker! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

ElCheAmericano says on Jul 29, 2005, 09:55: There are obviously a lot safer neighborhoods In NYC then Jackson Heights and surrounding areas, but neither is it South Bronx, Harlem, Brownsville, etc etc. In general you always have to watch you back in any of the boroughs, espeically at night time. I stayed in Queens about 2 years ago right across the street from Elmhurst Hospital. I didn't have any problems except for the cat calls I got at 4am passing some gay club around the 74th street station. That no doubt put the fear of God in my heart.

BigO says on Jul 29, 2005, 11:10: Hey Antioqueñita I'd listen to BxUnica & Cali373. They sound like they know what's going on now in Colombian Heights unlike everybody else who are stuck in the past. Natives for a restaurant & D'Antigua to hang out are great options. If you were from Cali I'd tell you to go to Chango were the Salsa Juanchito style is pumpin. And yes Natives is open for breakfast where I recommend Arepa con carne Asada. Off the chain.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that NYC has changed and it sure doesn't tell living there for 7 years. And it's not just on this post that you've spewed bullshit. Everywhere you go you spew bullshit on here. I had to laugh when you arrogantly tried to tell Miami Peter hhat county Aventura was located in (you know, since you are such the geography expert) and he told you that he grew up there and corrected you. A lot of people on this board have corrected you, but still you are the sabe-de-todo. Yes, New York City has changed a LOT, some hate it some love it. I missed drinking beer while walking the streets of Manhattan. I miss the old Times Square but I do like the new Queens, it used be a desolate depressing place (what I imagine Europe to be) with mostly Irish; it had no life no businesses just dark Irish pubs in every corner with drunken old guys with big red tiny hole covered noses in flannel shirts, Archie Bunker types. Now is busy and lively with a bunch of South Americans, Mexicans, Koreans and guys who forgot to remove the towels from their heads. I miss all the Puerto Ricans; it reminds me of an old Peter, Paul and Mary song. “Where have all the Ricans and their hot women gone?
