PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post |
Since I have lived in both places. I have noticed a few differences between these two species. The Floridian cockroach are usually alot braver and are usually found at higher altitudes in the home ie: dressers, bathroom sinks, shelf tops and refrigerator tops and have no fear of flying and will usually fly in your direction at first sight attempting to make your white underwear not so white anymore. They come in various lengths and have an array of different coffee colored stripes while the Colombian ones of the species are a bit more of the lazy ones and are usually found at the lower altitudes in the house ie: behind the toilet, under the refrigerator, under the kitchen table and are a bit more cowardly of nature as they usuall run away from you and are seemingly too lazy to fly. They are almost always full black in color and have longer legs.

famsearch says on Aug 10, 2006, 13:15: (standing up) hi, i'm dan, and i'm a gringo. there, with that out of the way, i can truly say that with my short acquaintance with colombian and american (minnesota) cockroaches, the colombian ones scared the hell outta me! i switched on the light one night, and there was one, had to be at least 4" (10 cm, for our metric friends) long, and looking for a fight. my wife, upon seeing her shocked, frozen, and near catatonic husband, asked what was wrong. i could say nothing, but could only point at our uninvited guest. my wife, bless her heart, walked over calmly, and stomped it out of existence. gotta love a woman like that. as i said before, hi, i'm dan, and i'm a gringo... dan 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

tejasmarcos says on Aug 10, 2006, 19:20: i think it is funny when people call the really big roaches waterbugs. when is the last time you have seen 2.5 inch roach in the water, pond, or lake for that matter? never. i think it makes people feel less embarrassed about seeing one in their house. trying to walk a straight line on sour mash and cheap wine... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

corazon en colombia says on Aug 11, 2006, 16:21: Scary cucarachas Forget Florida and Colombian cockroaches, the scariest ones I have seen were in Mexico, specifically in Acapulco. They are huge. I had the unfortunate experience of making their aquaintance while staying with some friends. I woke up one night because I felt something moving on my hand, it was a cockroach. Worst thing was when I recovered from the shock, I saw those wildabeast cockroaches were crawling all over the walls. Nasty! Colombia = paradiso 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
