The article: 2 more plead guilty to Colombian drug ring roles

February 9, 2006

BY ABDON M. PALLASCH Legal Affairs Reporter

Two more members of a Colombian drug ring allegedly run by City of Chicago water department employees pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Nora Rivas met with alleged ringleader George A. Prado, a city hoisting engineer, on Fullerton outside Children's Memorial Hospital on April 26 last year, according to Rivas' plea agreement. Prado got in Rivas' Jeep Grand Cherokee and handed her $2,600 for heroin he purchased from Rivas and co-defendant Alexander Millan, according to the plea.

Prado was fired from his city job after the drug charges against him were announced. The case against Prado is pending.

Four days later, Rivas flew to her native Cali, Colombia, and stayed for more than two weeks, she admitted in her plea.

While she was gone, Millan used her apartment to repackage a kilogram of heroin into nine bags of 100 grams each marked "100" and one bag marked "91," Millan admitted in his plea agreement.

Millan later met Prado's alleged drug courier, Vito Renteria, and gave him the heroin, Millan said in his plea. Renteria has already pleaded guilty.

On May 24, co-defendant Sandra "Guerra" Stewart gave Millan an Aldi bag with a shoebox containing about a kilogram of heroin, which he brought to Rivas' apartment and divided into 10 packages. He later delivered it to Renteria, still in the shoe box in the Aldi bag, their pleas state.

On June 6, Stewart delivered half a kilogram of heroin to Rivas where she worked at La Tienda Express. Prado called her and told her to bring it to a Dunkin Donuts on Harlem and pass it to his courier, which she did, her plea states.

Four of the defendants in the case have now pleaded guilty.

Rivas is eligible for about five years in prison; Millan is eligible for about four years, under federal advisory sentencing guidelines.

Anyone you know?

That article is stunning in its numbing detail of who divided what into how many grams.

No Hollywood, I can't say I know these characters. And, I am glad to say I have not had the honor to be aquainted with these characters. There is a part of me that wishes that I had, only so I could have given them hell for helping to contribute to this continuing negative sterotype of my people.

My Colombian people may be stereotyped, but they have earned it. Probably what bothers me most about these SOBs is the fact that they worked for the City of Chicago with very high paying jobs (in excess of 70,000 a year), and benefits that most people in this country, and NOBODY in Colombia has in their jobs. It's the result of being a member of a powerfull union local. And if anyone knows anything about Chicago, they know that trades union employees get paid very well.

So...why the greed? Who knows? But, these pigs came from Colombia with nothing. They managed to find some politician, "befriended" him/her, and got rewarded with a job that others would have appreciated. Well, they got what they deserved.
