Colombian Bishops against reelection of Uribe

"Several prominent Colombian bishops have suggested that Álvaro Uribe not seek a third term. These would include the Archbishop of Bogota, Cardinal Pedro Rubiano Sáenz, Msgr. Nel Beltrán, bishop of Sincelejo (Sucre), who cited the polarization and potential for increased violence in the country, Msgr. Julio César Vidal, bishop of Montería (Córdoba), and Msgr. Leonardo Gómez Serna, bishop of Magangué, who opined that it was time to give an opportunity to new people."

Colombia is too involved with the USA to take steps back with the guerilla, no matter who is elected, plan Colombia will still be in place with a strong military presence, now you know why the USA will be using Colombian military bases, they want to secure their investment.

All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self evident.

The catholic church has its job and place which is saving souls, marrying and burying, and christening babies ect ect. Their job 200- 500 years ago was saving souls along with meddling in politics before the advent of the modern political systems, democracy and even other systems. Often in out of the way places years ago they were the total government. But now, 200 plus years later, they just cant give up meddling in politics, and usually in a left wing manner, whenever they can take time off from saving the alter boys from a life of heterosexuality. This could be 2 of several reasons the catholic church is dwindling. These bishops should just move to VEN and try to meddle in Hugos politics and see how well they are received there. I doubt if Uribe puts much thought in what they want him to do. I pray Uribe holds on many more years!!!

I just don't understand why religious figures get involved in politics....don't they have millions of souls that need saving first?

While we're on the subject of the next president of Colombia, does anybody have an opinion on German Vargas Lleras, Cambio Radical and Seguridad Integral? It sounds interesting but I don't know much about it.

Why are these so called prominent Colombian bishops getting involved with politics? It is none of their f...ing business. As has been said already, their job is to administer to the laity of the church and not whether or not Uribe should be president or not. Do you ever wonder why the Catholic Church in Latin America is going in the toilet? Well, this is one obvious reason.

...and so it goes

The social contract of separation of church and state is supposed to be in place because it is universally accepted that the strictly rational thinking of the government puts matters of religion and worship strictly beyond their sphere of control.

How would the church like it if the government suddenly started legislating on matters involving faith and prayer ?

For the church to suddenly rear up and offer opinions on matters of government policy is unacceptable.

The church should stick to their knitting and leave the running of the county to those empowered by the people to do so.

I'm under the concept that religion is bad in certain ways (No disrespect to anyone here, nor am I attacking anyone's religious beliefs). For one, they have no right to me medalling in political affairs...I don't recall Mother Teresa a (true saint in my views) ever getting involved in political affairs. She cared for the poor and never asked for anything in return. Now we have bishops that oppose Uribe, but it does not stop here...there also bishops that support the coup and pinochelleti's government in Honduras. Another is the bishop of Bolivia who opposes the government of Bolivia.

"Well, I got back and took
The parkin' ticket off the mast
I was ripping it to shreds
When this coastguard boat went past
They asked me my name
And I said, "Captain Kidd"
They believed me but
They wanted to know
What exactly that I did
I said for the Pope of Eruke
I was employed
They let me go right away
They were very paranoid

Well, the last I heard of Arab
He was stuck on a whale
That was married to the deputy
Sheriff of the jail
But the funniest thing was
When I was leavin' the bay
I saw three ships a-sailin'
They were all heading my way
I asked the captain what his name was
And how come he didn't drive a truck
He said his name was Columbus
I just said, "Good luck."
