If your the backpacker type, I'd just show up and look for a hostel or something. From what I have heard Los Delfines is pretty good. there is the Decameron and Anaconda, but I don't like the people's attitude there. I also wouldn't buy a tour package form them since absoliutely zero goes towards the locals. they bring you to a village, tourist site, whatever, with their own food and water. The local cafes and such don't make a dime, and it is part of the fun going to the local places.
I still want to go to Isla de los Micos, but from what I have heard lately, there aren't too many micos interested in people anymore. A lot of the tour places don't go their anymore. Puerto Nariño is really cool (pop 2,000) At sunset, remember, for sunset, not midday, have pay some local 30,000 COP to bring you to Lago Tarapoto and you can see the pink dolphins swim. The really expensive hotel their is way to expensive, go to the one across the street, just 40,000 and nice. remember that in PN there is electricity form only 5-11 PM. Interesting when your dancing in the only disco and the lights go out.
3,000 COP will take you to Santa Rosa (or Ana, I keep getting that confused) a peruvian island like 5 minutes away. go for lunch and return after sunset, really cool. You don't need to get your passport stamped. We tried just for kicks and they wouldn't let us. Tabatinga is a walk or bus ride away. It is part of Brasil, you'll notice the difference, again, no passport stamp. the only things, store wise there are some shirts and sandals if you need them. I mean there is food and stuff too.
Moto-taxis are1,000 cop to anywhere in leticia.
We came in mid DEcember and the river was low, the port had just a trickle running through it, now, Abril, it is really high, isla de la fantasia, in front of the port, doesn't exist temporarily and people's houses are on stilts. the whole river rising means a lot for what you want to do. One time period you can wald through neighborhoods, other times only by canoe, which do you want to do?
I have some picsof Leticia, check em out. More are coming. I'll try to think of other things...
KM11 has an indigenous group that lives there, they take tourist in,b ut Ihave no idea how do go about setting that up.
Moped rentals are 20,000 for a day, 5,000 an hour. Bringa liscense of some sort.
Mohohoy, soold in the market5-7AM saturdays...just go and see.
Go to the main park (Santander) at 4-4:30 and stay for a bit. Hang out on the work out benches, or what used to be them. Nice stuff to see, just do it.
Go to the library, then pass it direction of the river. You'll see a really cute neighborhood on stilts, walk through it they go left or right and pas more as you go up or down the river.
I'll keep thinking. we'll be here until Mayish if you need some showing around. Maybe back to stay (with our own hostel) Come later in the year. Have fun
