Any advice on my GF seeking a divorce?
My GF has been separated from her husband for 5 years. He has not seen the children during this separation. No birthday presents, no Christmas presents, no phone calls, nothing! His violent temper has gotten him a restraining order. The only thing that he has done is occasionally pay her a few hundred dollars a month when he could. Now that she has filed for the divorce, he has stopped paying.
My GF paid a Lawyer some up front money to represent her in a divorce. I have seen the initial papers before filing. Two months have gone by and NADA! I have asked her to get a court case number and hopefully we can track the progress online.
How long does the process take? Has anyone been through this that can offer some advice?

I haven't a clue about how long this should take, though my Colombian fiancee thinks it can take as long as a year. Whether this is a guess or not, the better question is why don't you ask the lawyer? If s/he can't give you a good answer, maybe the lawyer is incompetent. Either way, good luck. I hope all goes well.
