eywed says on Nov 28, 2007, 12:49: Great timing for this video. My step daughter is having problems with a teacher who is giving her bad grades for misspelling Colombia. The teacher says it's spelled columbia. Time for a parent , teacher confrence. Think I will slap a copy of this video on her as well as other things. I am hoping the teacher is just ignorant and not raciest. Ay Hombe!!!!! |

Dan says on Nov 28, 2007, 12:57: Desi, Good video. I haven't seen that before. God Bless America! |

john_stark says on Nov 28, 2007, 22:23: If she is spelling British Columbia, the District of Columbia, Columbia, South Carolina and nearly every other Columbia in North America as Colombia, then, yes, she is misspelling it. If on the other hand, they are spelling the name of the country then the teacher is a goofball and she should watch the video.

christobeldawg says on Nov 28, 2007, 22:41: people from Colombia seem to be very sensitive about replacing that U with an O. admittedly, arriving can feel great too |
|
eywed says on Nov 28, 2007, 23:09: The teacher was informed it was the country in south america. My step daughter told the teacher she was born there and knew for sure how it was spelled. Teacher still gave her a bad grade. I will get to the buttom of it. Should be fun. Ay Hombe!!!!! |

Robert Jorge says on Nov 28, 2007, 23:30: Yep, eywed. I too would look forward to having a conference with that teacher. I can understand there being a discussion between student and teacher about it - it's called learning - but to actually penalize a kid with a low mark for a misspelling that isn't technically a misspelling - my blood pressure would be slightly elevated. Would your daughter be corrected if she wrote Deutschland rather than Germany? I doubt it. Let us know what happens.

webmanco says on Nov 29, 2007, 06:55: Take the risk not to leave Colombia But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am |

edgzun says on Nov 29, 2007, 08:55: Desi: I had never seen that video and I thought it was great. It's educational and shows just how many misconceptions there are about ColOmbia. I will forward it to some people. So, about ColOmbia...

edgzun says on Nov 29, 2007, 13:42: Gringoinbogota, I hadn't read your comment. I wasn't debating.

slguy says on Nov 29, 2007, 13:51: Desi, that may be the best promotional piece I've ever seen - for any country. VERY well done! Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab |
|
john_stark says on Nov 29, 2007, 21:06: We misspell it because we've got our own Columbias all over the place. It's like making a phone call in China - there's so many Wings and so many Wongs, it's easy to wing the wong number.

manINred says on Nov 29, 2007, 21:23: The english spelling for Colombia is Colombia. Just check the BBC news headlines.

christobeldawg says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:03: way too many panties twisted over that spelling. who cares? It's a great country. admittedly, arriving can feel great too |
|
slguy says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:11: here's the link to my stolen, ummm. plagiarized research. About a third of the way down the page- but I think it runs to 2/3 down the page. ;) My friend who wrote it is a retired lawyer- and it shows in this post. Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab |
|
manINred says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:13: I wasn't disputing that, it's not a big deal! But it is factually incorrect to imply, as another person (perhaps jokingly?) implied that Colombia the country is spelt Columbia in English, i just pointed out it's not. I don't mind, but imagine if Canada was Kanada and England Ingland and United States United Gates, etc... quite frankly it doesn't bug me, and I never try and sit on a high horse, the ride is fun but you pass too many people on the way.

slguy says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:15: I misunderstood. Sorry. Just be happy I din't repost that long modefoque. jajajajjajaja Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab |
|
john_stark says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:16: It wasn't me. Colombia, the country, is spelled Colombia in both English and Spanish. However, we've got so many of our own Columbias (British, District, South Carolina etc) I can see how people get messed up.
|
|
manINred says on Nov 29, 2007, 22:25: haha, no don't worry, no need for apologies, i'm often unclear in what i write. i know it wasn't you guys who implied that colombia is columbia in english. you are two of the more knowledgeable people on the site.

Lcacique says on Dec 9, 2007, 12:10: Great stuff!!! I love how they use the bullshit Hollywood image of ColOmbia. Hilarious... Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta! |
