Giants stadium has a terrible pitch for a football match... I'm surprised there weren't any more injuries. As far as this game, the Colombian manager experimented with a few things and we'll be ready for Uruguay come Sept. 6

Eliceaga blocks penalty to preserve 1-0 Ecuador win over Colombia

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — Marcelo Eliceaga blocked Tressor Moreno's penalty kick in the 83rd minute, preserving a 1-0 victory for Ecuador over Colombia in am exhibition game on Wednesday night.

Christian Benitez converted the rebound from his own blocked penalty kick in the 40th minute for Ecuador after Luis Amaranto Perea ran over him the far corner of the area. Goalkeeper Agustin Julio dived to his right to block Benitez's penalty, but the rebound came back to the forward, and he easily scored in the 40th minute.

I was not completely impressed by Colombias goalie last night, even though he did intially block ecuadors penalty kick. Ecuador almost scored another goal when he was caught in a run down around by mid field leaving the goal unattended, Ecuador noticed an empty goal, and attempted a some what long distance goal but missed, anyhow, what is he doing by MIDFIELD? to me it seems as if he kind of idolizes Higuita's free style of play too much.

'San' Augustin has been a saviour to Colombia... no other keeper is anywhere close to him. Therefore, undisputed starter, hopefully this isn't getting to his head though. So until he actually lets in a weak one...

The goal ecuador scored was not his fault, he actually block it, it was just bad luck that it bounced right back into ecuador possesion.

maybe the future, but way too inconsistent. One of the reasons that Nacional failed so miserably last season when Lule didn't dish out for the refs.

romy what games did you watch then? Ospina was by far what saved Nacional not finishing worst then they did.... those ref stories are getting so old, if that was the case "Lule" would have dished out more money so the team would be champions for a 3rd time. what lame excuse!

beaner clearly you don't know your stuff and act like you do... it's a waste of time for me to discuss with you about politics and football. I suggest reading futbolred, enlajugada, and el tiempo to keep up with the game, then you need to find some friends in Colombia that are involved with running the teams and they might leak some of the good stuff to you.

jajaja... please romy, I am a season ticket holder here in Medellin. I'm the wasting my time with you about football. Please I am aware of futbolred, enlajugada and el tiempo... I actually participate in the Atletico Nacional blog, so please save it. Maybe you should watch 45' minutos, Rafagol, Gente Pasion y Futbol and la Telepolemica so you get informed on what actually goes on in Colombian football. Have a nice day.
