I guess G5 will be at Colombia's match today in Chicago Ecuador, playing with four of its regulars on the bench and in what appeared to be an experimental 4-3-3 formation, took the lead in the 52nd minute when Segundo Castillo ran onto an attempted clearance attempt by Haydee Palacio and drove a shot from the edge of the area.

Colombia responded three minutes later when Elkin Soto received a ball at the top of the Ecuadorean area and launched a left-footer that beat keeper Christian Mora inside the right post.

"I believe that we are not biting enough up front," Ecuador manager Luis Fernando said. "I think we need to work on that. We need a lot of work on that aspect.

"I liked the intensity of the game, because it is very much like the one at a World Cup game. That is why I am happy. They ran a lot and they didn't stop."

Ecuador was to complete preparations in Spain, where it will face Macedonia in Madrid on Sunday. It opens the World Cup in Germany on June 9 against Poland.

The match, before an overwhelmingly partisan Ecuadorean crowd of 52,425 - the largest crowd to see a soccer game at Giants Stadium since 74,511 saw Manchester United play AC Milan in a friendly in 2004, was the first of five for Colombia in 12 days.

Colombia manager Reinaldo Rueda said the purpose of the trip is to evaluate players and prepare for next year's Copa America in Venezuela.

"We're still nostalgic about not qualifying for the World Cup," Reinaldo said. "But I have a good group to get ready for the next one.

"This a good base of players. That will help us prepare for the future."

Colombia faces Romania in Chicago on Saturday before traveling to Europe and playing Poland, Germany and Morocco. Roving reporter Gomezman5 says I wouldn't miss the match for all the kidney pies in England.

Colombia used only five of its regular starting 11, while Ecuador sat forward Augustin Delgado, defenders Ulises de la Cruz and Geovanny Espinoza and goalkeeper Edwin Villafuerte.

Both sides mostly were limited to long-range chances, especially Ecuador, which was whistled offside seven times in the first half.

The United States has been a popular destination for both sides. The match was the 11th for Colombia in two years in the United States, including three in the past year at Giants Stadium.

The game against Colombia was the fourth for Ecuador at Giants Stadium since October 2004, and followed a similar "send off" match in 2002, when it beat Yugoslavia 1-0 in the New York City suburbs before heading to South Korea and Japan.

Lo que pasó fue que le equipo colombiano en este partido del viernes no jugó muy biin. En el comentario de la tele dijeron que los mejores de los jugadores se habían quedado en Colombia para jugar en el campeonato nacional.

Además parece que el técnico alemán habló con los muchachos después de este partido muy flojo contra Japón (2:2) y habían cambiado su técnica.

Ahora estoy un poco más optimista acerca de nuestro equipo.

No obstante les deseo un mundial divertido a todos los colombianos. Los hermanos de mi novia lo van a pasar con cachuchas alemanas que les regalé en enereo.

Plain and Simple I just saw the game Germany vs. Ecuador.
Ecuador basically lost against Germany for two reasons:
1. The Ecuadorian team had four players with yellow cards; among these players with yellow cards were key strikers. Many of these players did not play for tactical reasons.
2. The referee was terrible; he failed to call several obvious dangerous plays. He was biased and consequently, the tv commentators gave the referee a score of 2.

Jorge Pérez-Navarro y José Luis Chilaver commentators (professional soccer commentators) did not stop saying that the referee was “Terrible, malisimo� These were the exact words from Jose Luis Chivaler, former Paraguay’s goalkeeper.
My opinion, Ecuador needs to build a stronger defense and bring in all their finest players back for the next match and you’ll see the difference again.
