Colombia vs. Argentina

Colombia played today, in a match that resulted in a 4-2 loss to Argentina:

Colombia were much improved from their game against Paraguay, they played with passion and flair, but unfortunately Argentina had more skill, it's as simple as that.

Messi is a cheat, which is such a shame, because he's so skilled.

bueno_pues, you are making a rather distasteful string of observations.

Anyone care to add insight into the match? Simon? Gomezman5? etc...?

Yeap, we have a family of racist. Do you think because of the color of your skin you are better?

Es posible a notar el color de la piel sin estar racista. Si todos los jugadores son pelirubios o pelirojos, voy a notar ese tambien.

Talking about the color of skin is a modern taboo. Or rather, it is a taboo not to use the right terminology and the accepted criteria. You cannot call a student "the colored guy", but you can recruit heavily for "students of color".

I have to admit, Colombia played much better but they got the short end of the stick. The commentators agreed that there were some really bad calls. Take away the penalties and Colombia would have won. Now, Colombia plays US next, SORRY. GO USA

Simon says on Jul 3, 2007, 09:32:

Colombia played decent against what is probably the best team in the world right now. That penalty was BS.

Now we have to beat the US on Thursday to get a spot as a best third place team. I think we can do it

GO COLOMBIA!

"Have to beat the US" is a hell of an understatement. They will have to beat the US by around five goals, and then *maybe* they can go through.

The only good thing is, by the match day they will know if they have any chance at all, and also will know exactly how many goals they need to score. This could end up being real fun to watch. Just imagine, Colombia needing to put six goals into the US net *and* having a really good day...

Argentina is astronomically better than Colombia. They should not be even on the same pitch. Bring back the "rosca paisa"!

Argentina is "astronomically better" than every other country in this tournament, and only somewhat better than Brasil.

Argentina will continue winning, they have very proud players vs. Colombian players, they are as we see them here.

My thoughts

For starters, I have to agree with most of the comments above. That PK was super BS. I was in the bar, and almost throught the bottle of beer at the TV. I yelled "What the Fuck" very loudly. I was so pissed. Argentina's Lionel Messi must have takes a quick primer in acting to be able to pull off what he did. There was only a 50-50 chance at best, of he being the recipient of a personal foul within the "The Box" and thereby warranting a penalty kick. I am so dismayed by the trend in officiating these days. As a general rule, in a highly contested match of this nature, the ref should "leave the whistle in his pocket" and let the teams play. Obviously flagrant persona fouls, should not be ignored. However, where all else is equal, you should not throw a yellow that mandates a penalty kick as opposed to merely a free kick, knowing that there is a good chance you are going to give a game away. I'm sorry ....that was absurd.

Indeed Colombia played much better against Argentina. They were outclassed however. Argentina will go to the final. (my prediction) So, that said, losing to a team that is still as good as the best of them, is nothing to be ashamed of. The likes of Zaneski and Crespo, are rivaled by few in International soccer (futbol) play.

In the upcoming match between the US and Colombia.....my heart ....and my support has to go to Colombia. Anything that will pick up the morale of Colombia and its people/fans will be more than something of casual significance. While I support the US, the US does not support its team. A US victory will by and large go all but unnoticed here in the 50 states. On the contrary, a Colombia victory will be somewhat of a boost to the morale of all Colombian people no matter where they may live. G O C O L O M B I A !!!!

Wow, Gomez, to tell you the truth, I'm surprised you're rooting for Colombia when they face the US, I guess you really are a true 'Colombiano' thru and thru.

And how about that 'Brujita' Veron? Evertime that guy had the ball, I'd get scared, that's how good he is. Watching Argentina handle that ball, it really is a spectacle for the eyes. What a awesome team!

I really think the US made a big mistake by not taking their best players to a tournament of this calibre. Now Brasil can get away with that, but not the US. It almost seems top me that they don't take it seriously. The Copa America deserves more respect.

And you make a good point about the US and it's lackluster support back home. What a shame, really. I remember when they played Iran in the 1998 World Cup and seeing how happy the Iranians were, even dancing in the streets, when they beat the US. I don't really care for Iran, but I was glad they won because it meant so much to them.

"I guess you really are a true 'Colombiano' thru and thru." Well thank you Simon. I will surely remember that line when I need to in the future. Anyway, that is where my heart is

Regarding why their best players are not participating.....that was not the choice of the team...that was the players choice. As you know, most if not all of these players have comittments to other teams in other parts of the world. Hence, if they decide not to participate for ANY reason, they may do so. They all use the same reason (excuse) "they're tired and need rest". In the case of the US, you heard this from their top gun Landon Donovan, as well as DeMarcus Beasley. Mexico lost Salcido ( an excellent player) and Brazil lost Ronaldino, as well as kaka'. I am probably forgeting to mention other players, but these are just a few......
