Whats wrong with the post? Some people may want to watch this report. I dont want to offend anyone, but there are tourist that come because they like and enjoy Colombia and others that come for different reasons.

Posted on July 5, 2009

roloenNJ: There is basically nothing wrong with this kind of posts (IMAO) except that the topic has already been discussed about 15 891 times here on PBH...

And that the owner of this forum had decided that "sexual exploitation" or "sexual tourism" in Colombia should be discussed in other forums (there are plenty).

Posted on July 5, 2009

ahhhh ok...............I just wanted to share that this repost will be broadcast tonight by Caracol. I would try to find a topic that has never been discussed in PBH so many times before.

HOW ABOUT THIS TOPIC from the AMBASSADOR for children org helping Colombia

http://www.ambassadorsforchildren.org/www2/?action=Trips/details.php&trip_id=339

Program Starts Saturday, August 1st, 2009
Program Ends Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Trip Leader: J.R. Pico

Visit a magical, romantic city on the Caribbean Coast of South America: Cartagena de Indias which was founded in 1533 by the Spanish. You will be awestruck by the magnitude of the still existing infrastructure of the Spanish rule which ended in 1810. Explore the grandeur of the more than ten miles of walls surrounding the old city. Enjoy the fortress of San Felipe and the balconies of the colonial streets. The city has the added luxury of being on the equator where the sun bathes the beaches and islands 365 days of the year with a constant temperature between 85 - 95 degrees.

Unfortunately, in this Caribbean treasure within 30 minutes of the bustling, tourist metropolis, live countless children who know nothing of the division of their city into two worlds. One world is a vacation destination for the rich and the other one is a makeshift, poorly-constructed area. The children know nothing of the existence of the other or simply as a vague illusion of huge buildings so distant they are not reachable. Our humanitarian mission focus at this destination is to provide children the opportunity to receive an education who might not otherwise have one. We work with several sustainable projects which are explained in detail in the itinerary.

Colombian children just need a chance to have the same opportunities for education and health care as children in the rest of the world. This program reaches into the homes of children between the ages of 2 and 6 years and draws them into an educational environment that will give them hope for the future and a desire to be educated that they might never have encountered if not for this program.

Come experience the joy of removing the boundaries for these children so their city can become one. All will have the same opportunities to work together to build a better future.

Roloen, Leave it up and if Darloup doesnt like it let him flag it and let the mods make the decision.. Me personally by reading your post you are not posting on any details on Sex Tourism but more letting people know that there is a program tonight on CARACOL about sex tourism in Colombia and if people are interested on checking it out... No more No less... Its you prerogative to post this thread though..

this post is fine. take it easy people.

Posted on July 5, 2009

in the meantime if your in nyc during july 31

Posted on July 5, 2009

I really don't find anything I would delete. The other mods might see it differently

Posted on July 5, 2009

elSapo: The point is not argue/discuss whether Colombia is a sexual destination (I happen to think that it is).

The point is whether Peter, the owner of this forum, wishes this topic to be discussed on PBH. I though he didn't not. Sorry if I am wrong and then, by all means, lets openly discuss this topic if the mods allow us to do so.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Hey mitch sorry I be in Colombia around July...........(Looks fun tho). The Colombian festival will be on July 12 Elizabeth, NJ

Posted on July 5, 2009

OK Bill, nice to confirm to us that we can revert to discussing, and starting generic sexual threads on PBH - whilst naturally respecting the fact that "Delicate society issues like sex tourism, prostitution and pedophilia should be approached with discretion." (as per the PBH rules).

Yea, I be there tomando cervecita and eating carne asada most likely getting ready for Colombia (maybe guaro mejor)

Posted on July 5, 2009

You simply can't help it Elmo!
Oh well, as long as you assume the consequences of what you post....

Posted on July 5, 2009

darloup, thanks for keeping this thread on top of the active list, it is all to clear you are supporting such threads

Posted on July 5, 2009

Here we go again....... jajajjaja lol

Posted on July 5, 2009

What exactly am I supposed to be supporting Elmin? (be VERY careful in your answer).

Posted on July 5, 2009

Not sure what Elmin is thinking; but it is evident in my view that you want to give this thread more exposure each time that you comment on it. For as you do so it moves the thread once again to the top of the page.

RoloenNJ, thanks for posting this upcoming news!
I have also mentioned it in another thread here about this epidemic that is beating Thailand and thanks to our Colombian friends who love to advertise Colombia as a place for this type of tourism.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Papi: I don't have a PBH agenda. I'll gladly give this thread more exposure if only to say, again and again, how I am utterly fed up about this kind of rubbish being posted here. I'm sure Google Analytics is also wondering why the word "sex" comes back so regularly in the PBH threads.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Monpirri, problems like these are better solved when the public is better informed. I'm with you on this one. Too bad for Thailand; but I would say that those who want to see Colombia more like Thailand in this regard should just go directly to Thailand. In the mean time, let's expose the problem for all to see. These types shun the light of day.

Thanks for your help Darloup.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Darloup, I agree with you and I disagree with you. I agree that sex tourism has been posted here on pbh before but now thanks to many of us who oppose to Colombia being the target of this business, the Colombian Government and the News media have begun to focus on this growing epidemic.

So I recommend that you watch it tonight and believe me it is going to be different from what you have seen here.

If everyone would just put Darloup on Ignore as I have done, the entire problem would be eliminated.

Posted on July 5, 2009

and the guerrilleros, paramilitares and the pancho amigos...

Posted on July 5, 2009

Monpirri: I agree with you - it's a serous problem. I was just wondering if, for the umphteen time, it needef to be discussed here on PBH (especially since none of the past discussions here ever changed anything and, more importantly, only altered PBH's perception on the international scene.).

Posted on July 5, 2009

Thanks for the post.

It's actually at 8pm Colombian time, according to Caracol's website. 30 minute running time.

And much to The Sapo's chagrin, I'm sure, the preview shows images of Cartagena. Looks like this one will focus on La Heroica (like all the others did).

Posted on July 5, 2009

i had sex once, didn't like it much! I was telling my 5 kids about it only the other day.

The OP offers a programming note about a show to be broadcast on national television in Colombia, and La Papaya Humana wants to be a censor as well as a moderator?

Posted on July 5, 2009

Ummmm... just returning to the topic for a minute.....Isn't everywhere a potential sexual situation? It doesn't matter what country I'm in......as soon as I'm outta that door, my radar is ON! A doctor once told me it's because I have a dick.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Ok, i watched it....hmmm...my thoughts:

1. an Expose on something Colombia which is totally legal..what kind of expose it that? colombian style, i guess.....
2. no mention of the percentage of colombian men who participate
3. photos of couples walking in Cartagena, with the implication they are hookers or prepagos, with out any apparent verification
4. prepagos with their own websites who make $$$
5. no mention of webporn or porn at all.......and the gringo factors such as running these business, clients, etc
6. cops directing gringos to where they can find hookers
7. Cartagena is a tourist town...without tourism, its a pueblo.......the lower paid workers in this town survive on the commission fee economy.....everyone who refers someone to someone expects and usually recieves a commission fee....whether its taxistas, meseros, people on the streets, etc...
8. Medellin, being much larger, probably has more sex workers than Cartagena? Remember, Cartagena is a one horse town....and the area referred to in the expose is limited to about 5 small barrios...
9. Italians, Italians, Italians, Italians.............
10. the question to the italian ST featured: what would you say if colombianos went to italy to have sex with italian women? .....ah...so this is what the expose is all about...colombian men are not happy with other men "taking their women".....and here i thought they were not happy with prostitution etc....

thats enough for now.....

would someone please tell me what the interview with the boat operators was all about? i saw a cruise ship in the background when the interview started, but my chinese food was delivered at this time, so i missed most of it..........

Posted on July 5, 2009

Septimo Dia documentary it's a two part series, part two continues next week.
The documentary targeted Cartagena as the center of the action and Medellin got a break, I say a break because Medellin is the most popular place for tourists from pbh, and of course, we all know that they travel there for the scenery only and for Botero's work.

Posted on July 5, 2009

m_c, it's a multi-part doc, maybe they answer some of the loose ends you pointed out next time.

I caught half of it, and the conclusion that they explicitly draw is this
"Colombia is emerging as a top sex-tourist destination"

and they didn't say whether it was a good or bad thing, but the way they shot it seemed to imply that it was not desirable.

Posted on July 5, 2009

Not me.. I like taking a ride on the Metro.. from end to end..

Posted on July 5, 2009

ah....ok, that is why it cut to the Boston flick......maybe they will address those issues.....

MIN...did you catch the part about the boat operators? were they implying they take the hookers out to the cruise ships or the islands? or did they transport clients to the shore for the hookers? how did the boats fit in...i missed that part....

Posted on July 5, 2009

The boat guys made money ferrying groups of tourists to the nearby islands.

The boat guys also got tourists asking to hook them up with the painted ladies of the night. To which they would always answer "I've got 'em, how many do you want, what kind etc".

At the very end of the show, the presenters said "we're not presenting any judgement, just showing the reality."

The enduring image for me is the one they showed a couple of times -- the Colombiana in a nice short dress and heels, and the gringo walking alongside her in grungy shorts and flip flops.

Posted on July 5, 2009

a funnier question would have been if they had featured an american and asked him what would he think if colombian males like the host would go to the US to have sex with gringas??? jajajjaj....can you imagine the responses......jajajajjajajaj

Posted on July 5, 2009

I didn't catch the boat scene, other than when the prepago (or perhaps the presenter) is explaining about how "they come in on boats and cruises" (the sex tourists).

With the amount of dough these girls bring in, it's no wonder they become prepagos. And is it just me, or were some of those man-like women just disgusting? ... and they still make tons of $$$. There must be some very desperate blokes who travel to colombia.

Posted on July 5, 2009

An article in El Pais(Cali) last week highlighted that Cali was becoming a pedophiles destination and the local Colombian authorities were monitoring a worsening situation. It named Spanish and Italian's as the worse offenders. Perhaps a few of these tourists returning in body bags might relieve the situation.

Posted on July 5, 2009

i know the majority of men in Cartagena are Italian, and many of these actually live here.....although there is a Spanish consulate or embassy here as well, i have not seen that many spaniards running around the tourist area......

MIR...i agree, that redheaded one interviewed was disgusting and fugly....then the fake blond ones in medellin had to have been TVs.........

anyone here on PBH see their names come up on that prepagos cell phone they displayed?? jajajajja.......

Posted on July 5, 2009

What`s wrong with this? Why everytime so much doble moral? Acept it, it`s a buisness like no other. It`s the oldest job in the world. Do the girls loke very sade or didn`t like their job and money?

Posted on July 5, 2009

they could start by changing the laws regarding prostitution, then enforcing current laws equally among colombians and gringos...problem is too many Colombian MGs and politicicans would get caught up in it......

Posted on July 5, 2009

and a whole shitload of lower income people would be out of $$$$.......the goverment cannot offer them an alternative......not with a shitty economy....

how about that italian guy saying that he spends 200-300 Euros every day??.....

Posted on July 5, 2009

And whaqt`s the matter, we all have fucked once in a while a Colombiana o -o. And mostly you pay directly or indirectly.

Posted on July 5, 2009

self-edited.....................Ya! jajajaj

Posted on July 5, 2009

I watched about half of it.

Prostitution will exist no matter what and it's good that it is legal because then real health and safety programs. If not, there is a wall between the people involved and the government.

I can understand why many people are disgusted by Colombia having this type of reputation. Everyone has their ideal of what they want their country to be. Trying to whitewash it doesn't do service to anyone except the egos of those proud Colombians who want the world to think that Colombia is different from what it is. Keeping it more open and legal makes it easier to find the minors who do it. If the police can engage the legal girls, it can help them find the young ones.

The most positive thing that can be done is to make sure there are oppertunities for young women so that some don't have to do it to survive.
