colombia travel question...

i read somewhere that there is a tax that i must pay b/f leaving colombia to return to the states... is this true? if so, how much is it (american)? and are there any other costs associated with travel from the US to medellin and back?

thanks in advance -

d

exit tax... just returned from bucaramanga via bogota airport...first thing first...had to pick up slip regarding exit tax at a window called exencion or something like that...then proceeded to appropriate line where i paid 29$ in tax. the bogota airport has atm machines so i withdrew the necessary pesos from there and paid the tax. i did pay an 8 dollar exit tax at the bucaramanga airport...other than that i didn't pay anything else. the people in colombia are very helpful you won't have any problems i am sure. nothing to worry about...

i love colombia...junior

Exit The window Junior is talking about is just inside the Entrance/Exit number 6. be sure to get that as soon as you arrive to the airport and get there early so you can go through the ticket counter and all the security... very easy to do, just takes a bit of time. My spanish isn't too great but I was able to figure out what the lady was telling me that I needed.

My experience my last trip:
I ended up waiting in line at the airport to come back home only to realize that I needed it. then ended up at the back of the line.

Enjoy your trip

God Bless America!

Hi,

It is airport specific... the amount you pay.

At the Cordova airport in Medellin, it is $29 US to leave, or you can pay pesos, but I am not sure if that is a better or worse deal. Yes, they will give you 1$US in change. Also, there are not too many bilingual people there, so I hope your spanish is better than mine.

Rionegro airport/Medellin Hi
I just returned from Medellin last july 19th to Miami leaving from Rionegro airport. I showed that I came into the country as a tourist for 2 weeks and they waived the exit fee!! One other thing they suggest that you get to the airport 3 hours before departure....I thought that a little absurd, but as it turned out I needed atleast 2 1/2 hours to go through all the inspections, checked luggage really gets the big inspection , they go through everything...they even x-rayed my little speakers for the walkman, after everything is out of your suitcase they xray it empty, they were friendly to help you repack it. Hand carry luggage gets a much less inspection. Customs in Miami just waived me thru. Have fun in Medellin, beautiful and clean city, great people and the women are all around dropdead gorgoeus!
