Colombia releases video of FARC meeting with Venezuela police

From Colombia Reports:

Colombia on Thursday released a video showing men wearing uniforms of the Venezuelan security forces meeting with two known FARC commanders. The footage follows earlier accusations that the Venezuelan army is providing weapons to the rebels.

In the video, the apparent policemen talk with two members of the FARC on Colombian soil and trade a car -- allegedly stolen by criminals in Venezuela and recuperated by FARC rebels on Colombian soil -- for gasoline.

FARC commander 'Chiguiro' of the rebels' 36th front and 'Guillermo', according to Canal Caracol one of the most wanted members of the guerrillas, appear in the video.

During the trade, the supposed policemen cross the Orionoco river to enter Colombian soil and the guerrillas cross the same river to Venezuelan territory.

The video was given to Colombian media in the midst of a row over an expansion of U.S. military presence in Colombia and allegations Venezuelan authorities provided rocket launchers to the FARC.

But he's making oil deals with the Ruskies on the Faja de Orinoco. Not that anything will result out of it, other than exchange of several suitcases and brown paper bags.

seems like Correa is willing to play with Uribe, though he makes some demands that I doubt Uribe will comply. Accepts apology...

Chavez is the greatest statesman of our time. His nobility of spirit is matched only by his far-sighted concern for his people. In just a few short years he has built a shining city on a hill, a spectacular edifice of a socialist republic, a beacon of light for those benighted rat-infested hovels that surround him. Everything he has promised he has made manifest, he has transformed his glowing words into brass tack actions, and ushered forth a new era of peace and prosperity, and he has done it all enjoying the love and respect of all Venezuelans.

And he will crush his vile enemies beneath his boot heel like the cockroaches they are. No one can stand in the way of Chavez.

In fact, I think we can say with Pericles that "...for the Venezuela that I have celebrated is only what the heroism of Chavez has made her...Chavez allowed neither wealth with its prospect of future enjoyment to unnerve his spirit, nor poverty with its hope of a day of freedom and riches to tempt him to shrink from danger. No, holding that vengeance upon his enemies was more to be desired than any personal blessings, and reckoning this to be the most glorious of hazards, he joyfully determined to accept the risk... Thus, choosing to die resisting, rather than to live submitting, he flees only from dishonor..."

Chavez is a puffed up, tin-pot strongman, a chimp in a cheap dime-store crown, who seized power illegally and kept his clutches on the reins of power by pandering and fear-mongering among the poor and vulnerable. His leadership qualities can be summed up as follows - he substitutes bullying for authority, hand-outs for responsible governance, bluster for courage, and knee-jerk egotism for decisiveness. He is a little, little man, and what's more, deep down, he knows it, making him embittered and defensive and desperate to bring others down to his level of kindergarten taunts. He predates on his own people while trumpeting that he is looking out for their interests, gutting those already weakened institutions which provide the last feeble checks against his unrestrained power.

Meanwhile his country falls to tatters around him, street crime and instability soars, hyperinflation looms, the media becomes little more than an eager hand-job, infrastructure crumbles, and productive, patriotic citizens flee in disgust and despair. He is literally driving his country and his people into the sewer, and what is more sickening, like an alcoholic seeking bottom, on some level he knows what he is doing and embraces it.

I believe we can say as Churchill did of Stalinist Russia that "Now, at this sad and breathless moment, we are plunged in the hunger and distress which are the aftermath of our stupendous struggle; but this will pass and may pass quickly if the present leader is removed, and there is no reason except human folly of sub-human crime which should deny to this nation the inauguration and enjoyment of an age of plenty."
