Colombia Opposes Election of Chavez to UN Security Council

Mexico, Colombia and most Central American nations have indicated support for Guatemala.

Uribe not supportive of his neighbor's bid to increase international influence.

P.S. The headline is objective, fair, and balanced.

Platano Good to see you have come out of hiding. Maybe you have been in Colombia, and did not want certain people to know.
I saw an article today in a recent National Geographic, about chavez and Venezuela, as well. May be a good report after I have read it.

I'D RATHER BE.........IN COLOMBIA :-)).... (No Quiero Conozco Gustav)

platano Colombia is not "opposing" the election of Chavez per se, but actually fulfilling a previous promise that we made to Guatemala after they and most of Central America voted for the Colombian candidate to the BID, Luis Alberto Moreno (which Venezuela did not support, IIRC).

Of course, you can choose to ignore this and call it simply "U.S. imperialism".

But then you could also try to notice that Venezuela received the backing of some 70 countries or so, mostly in the Third World, while Guatemala received that of about 110, including many European ones that are not mere tools of "U.S. imperialism".

Tinto:

I had read that in the Colombian press and found it curious, to say the least. I wouldn't have supported that particular 1979 Colombian candidacy, but not that of 1979 Cuba either. 1979 Mexico was probably a good compromise.
