Colombia Onward Travel (do I have to buy my ticket now?)

Hi,

I'll be traveling to Colombia on a multiple destination ticket flying into Medellin and out of Lima Peru. My question is is this enough evidence of onward travel for me to get past customs or should I buy my Colombia-Peru ticket before I travel?

I too Have never been requested to prove onward travel. I wonder if they can access a data base of the airlines or if they even care? Or maybe this gringo doesn't fit their profile?

What do you mean by profile? BTW I'm no gringo. I just would like to buy my ticket to Peru once I'm in Colombia since I figured it would be cheaper.

okay we have a language barrier... In MY post I stated THIS gringo didn't fit their profile. By that I meant that I did not fall within the charactistics of a person that they believed was a risk for not leaving Colombia. I don't know about the cost of tickets being cheaper in Colombia. This is a perception that my wife has also. But from my view they just always charge a lot and never give a discount. Her view is she is getting ripped of by making last minute travel plans here in the U.S. My view they simply don't give discounts for early travel in Colombia.

Sorry about that confusion lpdiver. I guess I'll try to get my ticket before I leave.

Reason you don't get asked The reason you don't get asked at immigration is because the AIRLINES enforce this rule for them. Your big risk is that the airline you're flying on won't let you board without showing an onward ticket.

And those of you who haven't been asked by an airline, it's because you had a round trip ticket with them. When you come down on a OW they will almost always ask for proof.

So I should be alright since I have a r/t ticket, just flying out of a different airport in Peru?

Clarify, please? So you're saying that you have a flight an itinerary that looks like this Miam to Bogota - Lima to Miami but nothing to connect you from Bogota to Lima? Technically, I think you're required to show how you're leaving Colombia, but I can't begin to imagine that the airline would bug you if you have a later ticket showing your returning to your home from another city in South America. I'd tell them your plan is to ride a donkey or take a bus between Bogota and Peru, if they give you trouble.

Good luck.
