The girls here in London tend to go out with older Colombians only if they are traquetos or have money! You can take the girl out of Colombia but you can’t take Colombia out of the girl!!! jejeje

what can I say, Jeff since there seems to be an ongoing battle about who knows best and whose opinions are the most valuable? I can only speak of my own experience and the experience of the people in Colombia that I'm familiar with. The cousin of my children got married not long ago, with a guy 2 years older than her. Another cousin is living together with a guy at least 15 years younger than her. My female friends are a mixed lot: a couple have husbands around ten years older than their wives, the rest are married to men in their own age range (within 2-5 years). Last time I was in Cali was a couple of years ago: what I saw then was that the young people were dating each others, parents were objecting because the "boys" hadn't finshed school yet.

I believe that we all see and hear what we want to see and hear. If you're an older guy dating teenagers you'll notice all the other older guys dating teenagers, not the young couples that are, of course, a large majority. My eyes are wide open.

Not just in Colombia...here in the States I have enjoyed everyones posts on the younger woman/older man phenomenon as it relates to Colombia. But there are certain parts of the U.S. where this was part of the culture as well. It is just that over the last few generations we have grown out of it somewhat, for better of for worse.

I'll give my grandmother as an example. She was raised in a medium sized town in Mississippi. One day she was playing in her front yard with her little sister while her father was sitting on the porch smoking his pipe. She says that she saw an 'old man' walk up to her father, sit down and speak with him for a long while. Eventually, her father called her over and said "Ruby, this is now your husband."

My grandmother was 13 and this "old man" was 32. And even though she had never laid eyes on him before that day; they were married that night and she was packed and moved to his home in another town. A couple years later, relocated to Chicago when she was 15. They had children together and remainded married until he died 35 years later .

No one in her family, no one in the town or surrounding area thought any of this was unusual. My grandmother described everyone, including her family as being happy for her that she had made a good match.

After my grandfather died, my grandmother never remarried, saying that he was the 'love of her life'.

While my grandmothers situation was more on an impomptu "arranged marriage". I know this still goes on in parts of the Southern U.S. and in areas of the Southeast. It is just not nearly as prevalent as in the past.

I currently live in Nevada and there are plenty of mature Mormon guys around here with very, very young wives and no one blinks an eye.

As much as we may try to figure out the 'Colombian' angle, it seems to me that this is just nature. Age is just a number.

It seems to me that love is such a fickle thing that it doesn't matter to much how it happens, or what ages the participants happen to be. It just matters that they love each other.

Just because there are a hundred times more 20 year colombianas with guys in their 40's than here in the states does not mean that it is the norm or that even a majority of 20 year old colombianas want a guy 20 or more years older than them.

It just seems like every young woman you meet is willing to date you because believe it or not there are alot more young women willing to date a forty year old guy than there are good looking forty year old guys to go around.

If you are a good looking forty year old guy in Cali, you will have no problem picking up women in their early twenties or even late teens if you prefer. But, that does no mean that MOST young women want to hook up with us old geezers;-0

It is so damn hot and humid that my fingers are sticking together. In the back sit are 3 college girls (regular costumers) that he drives from school to their home. I said and they giggle. “Usted no tiene accento colombiano, mas como cubano”. You have more of a Cuban accent, they said. Cuban? Damn, I met a great number of Cubans but not enough to make a difference in my accent, must be all the Cuban sandwihices and a couple of cubanitas I had. Anyway, the following day (I was not there) the same girls ask about me and told my nephew that I was a very interesting, funny, handsome old modefoque and let’s all go out drinking.
