I got this mail from my friend who lives in Panama. His wife is Panamanian.
BROKE INTO ... KILLED MY DOGS ...... SHOT WIFE ... MIDDLE FINGER LEFT HAND SHE GRABBED THE GUN WHEN HE TRIED TO SHOOT ME ... 5 GUYS ALL WITH GUNS .
LATER
Panama seems to be changing fast. The other week a car parked in a carport was firebombed in Boquete, Panama.
Shortly before leaving I was assualted by a bus driver and he wasn't even charged with the assualt.
Real glad I left when I did.

Robert Jorge says on Nov 8, 2007, 09:43: Mononocke28. "more safe" and "safer" mean the same thing. Are you asking which is better grammatically? If so, either is acceptable; but a common mistake, even by native English speakers, is saying "more safer." --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. But not for our children's children, because I don't think that children should be having sex." - Jack Handy |

Lowell says on Nov 8, 2007, 10:41: Sorry in shock about friends. I'm 55 and don't want or need lessons in English Grammar. You have nothing more to do than correct my grammar? Wow, what a life. Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" |

Chelesupercono says on Nov 8, 2007, 10:51: I have heard that Panama like Costa Rica is becoming really dangerous.....a lot of home invasions and very violent ones at that.....sorry about your friends... never go to bed with someone crazier then you are, you will do it and you will regret it....... |

Robert Jorge says on Nov 8, 2007, 11:03: Lowell, Mono asked which was better to use. I answered her question. I certainly wasn't trying to correct you, and until just this second, didn't even make the connection between her question and your post title. I do apologize though and hope there are no bad feelings. Again, if you are upset about my post, it was not intended to be "grammar policing" and not directed towards you or your post title. Besides, your post title looks fine to me. All that crap aside, that is terrible what happened to your friends. You must be in shock and terribly worried. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children. But not for our children's children, because I don't think that children should be having sex." - Jack Handy |

john_stark says on Nov 8, 2007, 18:56: Today on the radio I was listening to news reports about Philadelphia and their terrible homicide rate. They were going on and on about it. Philly is about the same size as Medellin and the number of homicides is 400. When Medellin has that number of homicides they'll have a civic holiday to declare how "safe" the city is. Hell last year they had 709 and everyone on PBH was babbling about how safe Medellin is. Meanwhile everybody in Philly is freaking out about 400.

Lowell says on Nov 9, 2007, 06:18: I saw the news of the fire bombing on "Viviendo en Panama" by Don Winner. The perps only hurled one molitoff (sp?) cocktail over a fence at a parked car. Minor damage was done to the vehicle. Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" |

Buongone says on Nov 9, 2007, 21:56: Buongone is Tagalog, That's Philipino language. It means the crazy 1. Needed a email name that nobody had and picked it. I heard of dudes driving down the Baja. Out off of San Jose del Cabo and doing the same thing. Just wiping the owners out clean. Most folks hire caretakers. Even then, they can be on the take. So that quiet life was just a little too quiet, Eh? Sometimes it's hard to find the place to live with just the right Happy medium of things to do, and keep you Busy, happy and out of the clink! My novia is from Cali. She loves it there. But I have not really checked it out in depth. I know they have a nice country club. Like she says, it would be really nice with a beach. But then again, what place would'nt? Just want to retire someplace that I'm not going to get burned out in a few yrs. That's why a lot of people say on PBH rent before you buy. Makes a lot of sense.

We passed that critter up/dn 3 aisles for ovr 1/2 hr. Was wondering what the membership cost at the nice CC in Cali. I imagine you need to know someone? Any help, I'd be grateful. Thnks B.

LuvsAddiction says on Nov 12, 2007, 15:20: I have been to Panama city once for two weeks about a year and half ago. I had no inconveniencies and lots of times I was by myself heading out to the bars & even ended up at a spot where a salsa singer owns a mansion near the Presidential palace- funny how things get forgotten and I'm a Spanish speaker- anyways, although it wasnt a close call, let's just say in my next visit I will stay away from that area at night; a friend took me to some " club" there. Not worth it mates!!! As per the city as a whole - which is a small one after all - it's got a nice laid back environment and it is my list as a place to work eventually - a real big dream dreamed outloud if you may. All in all, I like Panama city. Hey the Panamian women are exotic looking as well. You better have money to spend, it ain' t Cali. By the way, tons of Paisas in vacation or working and lots of Colombians that own business there. Oh you think Cali has hot weather...nah, Panama city can be much hotter than Cali. Also, I was at a nice 4 star hotel in a safe financial area Hey, good luck! Please enjoy while you can. Please do so! |

Mr. Hollywood says on Nov 12, 2007, 19:51: Sorry but nothing anyone has said here about Panama even comes close to the kind of shit that goes down in Colombia regularly. Raise this question again next time someone shells a church in Panama full of people hiding out from combat between various illegal groups. Or the next time the Panamanian army and "anti-kidnapping" cops decide to machine gun each other over a stash of coke.

Lowell says on Nov 13, 2007, 07:37: The fact exists that there are now more NON-panamanians victims in Panama of home invasions, assults, theft, terrorism (car fire bombed)....... Alfred E. Newman. "What. Me Worry?" |
|
Mr. Hollywood says on Nov 13, 2007, 09:43: Panama is actually such an interesting case study. It went from a place where NOBODY wanted to go during the Noriega days, to a tourist and retirement paradise, and now it's suffering a bit of a backlash.
