Colombia, land of the popular politicians

Every respectable Uribe-fan boasts left and right the 70%+ approval of their beloved leader, as shown in public opinion polls. Now it turns out that the most important figure in the opposition, Bogota mayor Lucho Garzón, has also a 70% of approval among Bogotanos, according to a recent poll.

So, amidst all its problems, Colombia is not only one of the happiest places in the world, but probably the only place on planet Earth where the most important political figures are very popular, even though they belong to very different parts of the political spectrum.

With or without Uribe, the electoral race is going to be very interesting.

I just hope that it's "interesting" in the non-Chinese (or actually, supposedly Chinese but probably not) meaning of the word.

I liked it when Garzon allowed the vendors back on the streets after Mockus kicked them off but now i see Garzon has kicked them off. That pissed me off but i would take Garzon over Uribe any day. I hope he runs against Uribe and kicks the little pukes ass!

I hope the court outlaws re-election and Peñalosa kicks Garzon's populist ass in the election. Wait, is garzon even allowed to run in 2006? Probably not, he's only been mayor for a few months.
