Colombia Is...it's

A Mystery.

I am so confused about the whole situation, after reading so much for so long from so many who have really so little (of value) to say. This pbh barrio is some sort of ghetto, uzing with inflammation and degradation.

I have found there are some posters that present as if they know all about Colombia, visit Colombia often (not!) or are actually living IN Colombia and post on this board from Colombia (pleeze!).

Per the CIA fact book (yes they are numbers, but better than a sharp stick in the eye): The population of Colombia is over 45,000, 000. So what would it take for PBH to be a small sample size example of that? and with so many subcultures and sub-sub-cultures..hmmm?

I am sorry El Torcido....I am going to derail from your post a bit (hope you are Ok with this my dear), as Kitty was curious and looked up the numbers BECAUSE I keep seeing posts
about how many women there are per men in Colombia, as if the ratio is so much higher than men. Sounds like a smorgasborg or a Morman fantasy gone wild. A free for all....So come on down and find yourself a wife, we got lots to choose from! They all treat you like a King and wait on you hand and foot, no matter how bad your attitude, nasty you look and smell. ....OK ....I am not "beating up" these posters, only challenging the actual truth and perception. Too much like a sales pitch - so I looked and compared Colombia with the USA. Please keep in mind I did not collect or analyze this data so I am not endorsing it....only food for thought in regards to what you actually get on PBH.?

1) Average mean age in
Colombia 26.8 years
US 36.7 years
10 years!
These numbers do support the accuracy of the information given to me regarding what is considered "old" in Colombia is still Young and kicking in the US. Infact, a Colombiano/a over 30 (considered getting old) might benefit from moving North to get the respect they deserve ;)

2) Male/Female ratios ages 15-64
Colombia .95male/1female
USA 1male/1female

Ok so, after looking

World average.... 1.02male/1female

Ok - so - why do you think there are so many reports that the streets of Colombia are swarming with women? Double vision? Personal Agendas? Are these posts reflections of the REAL Colombia? Seen through a Colombiano/as eyes? What do you think?

Kitty is curious ...Purrr

Yes, double vision. I've presented those demographic statistics on Colombia's male/female ratio before, but our members here believe that they are wrong. Some guys here believe firmly that he official Colombian male/female ratio is 1 cheating, short, ugly, poor, ignorant Colombian man to 10 hot, tall, sexy, smart, warm, personable, faithful, honest, hard-working, god-fearing, man-adoring, virginal pre-pago grilla on her first assignment.

Desi...I would say it is more like one in eight.

Seriously, there is a broad range of what can be found. Depending on where you look and what you are looking for. Personally, I don't find Colombia has anymore beautiful women than the rest of the world. However, I don't haunt the discos and touristy areas.

I do find some truth in the infidelity generalization that have been made; especially in the lower strata populations. The other side of that coin is that all those men that are running around have to be doing so with someone.

From my personal experiences you can find what ever you want in Colombia. I am happy with my find; but, I took it slow (2 1/2 years) and approached with open eyes. By taking that long it eleiminated the green card seekers (I hope!).

As to the OP's statement about the PBH barrio...you can find what you are looking for here as well.

I'm not going to make any friends with this but the truth is that I don't think Colombian women are any more beautiful than any other women, in any given country. Colombian women consider beauty such an important asset that they are raised up from the very first to think of themselves as being beautiful, to make themselves beautiful and pleasing to the male eye, but honestly, there are surely as many homely girls in Colombia as there are in Sweden or Ireland or the Philippines. With notable exceptions, the tropical hothouse flowers also wilt early and require high maintenance in their mature years in form of beauty treatments and surgery to conserve their physical beauty.

Say, for example myself; I have never had any interest in the tall, blue-eyed, muscular, easy going Vikings; I think of them as brothers, neighbours, classmates. However, the Colombian girls that stray this far north will not date another Colombian man in their lives after laying eyes on one of these blond boys up here....

I know a few Colombianos like that BTW, jaja.. If you have ever been to the Los Angeles EEUU area, many women there are similar to what you just described, an accepted subculture. So many women want to be "discovered". Interesting discussions with these types of gals can be limited...yawn...... or even worse - problematic. Hey, some guys like the shallow gorgeous type and some guys have low self esteem and prefer abusive and demanding beautiful women. I've stared at he picture of my daughter and her Caleña cousin at their fifteen-year-old -party in Cali and never there was two cousins who look less like each other. Both are pretty, I suppose, in the bloom of their youth. I wish I had the picture scanned to show you the difference between two cousins, a Scandinavian-raised and a Cali raised, in body language. It's like night and day. The Caleña cousin looks at the camera with a lowered head, posing, looking sexy and sultry. She's wearing a low-cut, skimpy top, plenty of eye make up and looks older than her years. The Swedish cousin is as blonde and blue-eyed as her cousinis dark and black-eyed. She looks at the camera with hear head tilted slightly upwards, with a happy, open smile on her face, showing a row of good, white teeth. She's wearing a button-up shirt and almost no make up. She looks younger than what she really is.

What I'm trying to say that ...I don't even know what I'm trying to say. Both girls are young and lovely. In a very different ways. My daughter sropped the traffic on the streets of Cali at fifteen; her cousin would have broken plenty of hearts if she had ever come here.

I see a much greater average of traditionally beautiful girls per square meter in downtown Stockholm than in Bogotá or Medellin or Cali. Girs walking tall and slim, careless, laughing, long shiny hair, chiselled features, long legs up to heaven, perfect teeth.

Oh well, I don't know about the North American women, I think weight might be an issue to many (my brother from Utah reports "oh yeah, there are some BIG GIRLS up here...); unfortunately the traditionally sporty and slim Scandinavians have been putting on some extra pounds (kilos) lately too...they ought to prohibit all those Mc Donalds and Burger Kings here.

Perhaps that's not at all representative of how the streets of any major city in USA look like. My gringa friends are NOT overweight and I believe that the average of good-looking gringa girls would be just about the same as for the rest of the western world, the UK, France, Germany etc.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Apr 18, 2008, 14:30:

MaFe, I'm glad you didn't take my opinion as an offense.
I believe Colombian, Latin American women in general are raised to think that vanity is a virtue, while North European women think it is just silly and superficial. Colombian have something in common with Russian. East European and Thai girls; I believe it's because these are male-dominated societies and women are raised to cater to male needs. Don't take me wrong onthis issue; I'm no hard-core femisnist; I believe in loving and sharing and taking care of each other is important, but some things for us women inthe north have been self-evident now for the longest time one of them being that we don't need depend on on our looks to survive here in this world.

I have plenty of female Colombian friends and we discuss these issues often when we get together. I think it's a shame my Caleña sister-in-law has to wear something I consider evening or party make- up to work every day, because her bosses demand that she, at her age of early fifties, must look youthful and "representative". This emphasis on looks is something that I find really bothering in Colombia. Every time I'm there people celebrate my "whiteness" , my good skin, my "youthful" looks like it was some kind of trophy of war and not just a product of my good genes.

Alma, thank you for your answer. I think you have found a special person in your life with that beauty within and you base your opinion on your personal experience. Don't we all. I just happen to think that Colombians are not more beautiful inside either than the average. They have more courage, though.

Much like with everything, people tend to exagerate based on personal experience.

There are beautiful women in every country in the world (and beautiful can mean many things from physical to internal, etc)

I think a lot of it is finding people that are different from what you see at home.

Scandinavian women have a reputation for being amongst the most beautiful in the world. I went to spanish school in Guatemala for 3 months a few years ago, and my school had some contact in Denmark that sent a ton of danish people to study there. They were mostly 20 somethings, doing a gap year or whatever. A lot of very pretty girls, but nothing I'd consider unusual. Going anywhere, you'd see Guatemalan guys falling themselves to talk to all of them/ask them to dance, whatever.

Around town everyday here in Colombia I see tons of beautiful women -- i think it's more so than in the US, but I really couldn't say. It's a different lifestyle. Whereas here I walk around all day, and run into/meet people, etc -- at home I was either in the office or in my car going home. I'm sure there were lots of pretty women driving along the highway, but it's pretty hard to notice them in those conditions.

La colombiana Martha Lucía Ortiz fue la ganadora del concurso Señora Belleza Internacional

Foto: Archivo particular

http://www.eltiempo.com/vidadehoy/18deabrilde2008/ARTICULO-WEB-NOTA_IN...

"Ellas me apoyan, además me motivan.

Actually I'd say skin stays better preserved in more Northern places.. and I chalk it up to weaker sunlight.

Those of us living at high latitudes get the sun in a much more diffuse way since we get it at an oblique angle and it has to travel further through the atmosphere. After 60 degrees North, we get 60% of the sun that Colombia would recieve. and it is almost 10% less sun for every 10 degrees North you go.

For example at 68 my mother has far better skin than most of her classmates from university (even those who have had "work done), but then she has spent 40 years living away from direct sun.

Icelandic girls are only different from Swedish or Norwegian girls in the way that there has been a small genetic pool to breed upon due to their isolation and they have preserved the original Viking looks longer. People in Scandinavian countries are a little bit more mixed; there are some Swedish girls with black hair (a Swedish king imported a Vallone community from Belgium to teach the Swedes about mining and smitheries back in 17 hundreds) and now there has been political and war refugees settling in Sweden changing the traditional city street scene forever, but it's mostly in the bigger cities. Out in the bush is just as white and blond, leggy and tall as it has always been.

Nutria are in the Order "Rodentia". They are absolutely rodents. They are basically giant rats, just like people said above. They have huge front teeth that do not stop growing - like all rodents. The only rodent larger than a nutria is a beaver. The name "nutria" comes from a combination of Greek words meaning "mouse and beaver." The only thing nutria and otters have in common is that they are semi-aquatic and that they are mammals. That's it. Otters are weasels. Otters are 100% carnivorous - nutria are vegetarians.
