If you happen to be an old car buff Colombia for you. It’s a living automotive museum. There are scads of odd and interesting old cars and trucks that are “daily drivers” that most North American car fanciers have never heard of much less seen on the road. For example there are big ´60s era British Austin Trucks (the first vehicles assembled in Colombia) and ´70s Kontio Sisu dump trucks from Finland, ´50s and ´60s. Mercury and Desoto trucks from Canada. Magiris and others from Germany, Old Volvo truck tractors, Huge MAZ heavy haulers from Russia, ´50s and 60´s Desoto and Fargo pickups (rebadged Dodges from Canada) Italian Fiat based Zastava and Lada cars from Russia, a Romanian Citroen called an Oltcit and Dacias, old Skodas, old Brazilian made VWs, Colombian made French Simcas and at least one ´53 Renault. And 4x4s: besides thousands of ´50s Willys Jeeps there are early English Land Rovers and Spanish made variant Santana, ´70s Toyota Land Cruisers and Nissan Patrols, Romanian Aro Carpatis from the ´60s and 70´s and similar Russian GAZ 69s, ´70s Suzukis and Daihatsu diesel jeeps, Deltas, a downsized copy of the Toyota Land Cruiser from the Philippines, ´70s Lada Nivas and ´90s model Beijing Jeeps from China. I’ve seen two Nissan Patrols from 1958. They look like early Jeepsters. Here are some of my favorite oddballs:
´66 Japanese Hino Contessa based on a French Renault.

East German Wartburg pickup

Romanian Aro Carpati

´78 Suzuki Jeep

Robert Jorge says on Jul 2, 2007, 00:31: Great pictures. I noticed a few old north American cars when I lived in Colombia. I know nothing about the other cars ... though it facinates me. I remember just down the road from my wife's mother's house, was a '67 or '68 Mercury Cougar. Original paint and wheels. Of course it was in pretty rough shape - like an unrestored 40 year old car typically would be. I also saw an oddball 56 Buick or 64 Impalla. I always thought that was pretty cool, and wondered what those cars have seen over the past 30, 40, 50 years. He who farts in church, sits in his own pew. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
