They are good! Hi Todd,

They are good! You will actually find that they change depending on the part of Colombia you are in. Hamburgers are as well with a lot of sauces ricos that we do not use here in Denmark.

My advise is to experience with everything you got. In Denmark we are very stuck up with what kind of stuff that goes with what kind of food and that is stupid.

Hotdogs I've never been to Baranquilla and I'm not sure how their hotdogs are different from the ones I've eaten, but the ones in Bogota are like this:

Get your hotdog and bun,
add a slice of processed ham
some grated cheese
a squirt of tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, golf sauce (the pink one), and pineapple sauce
then sprinkle some crushed crisps (potato chips) on top
and top it off with a boiled quail's egg

and voila!!

Salsa rosada It's called salsa rosada in Spanish, and I know it's called Golf sauce in English, although I've never seen it outside Colombia. I think it's just a mixture of mayonnaise and tomato ketchup, and it's very popular in Colombia.

I ran a search for "pink sauce" on google and found lots of recipes, to eat it with fish and eggs, so I think it's the same kind of thing, although the stuff you get in Colombia is processed. Here's a recipe, if you're really keen!

Sauce
4 tablespoons tomato purée mixed with enough
water for 1 cup of sauce
1 cup single cream
1 1/2 teaspoons grated ginger
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper
1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
Mix all the ingredients for the sauce. Cover and refrigerate until needed.

Maybe you'll find pink sauce at the supermarket, you never know!

Colombian Food

No offense to the great people of Colombia but the only food that I enjoyed when I was in Barranquilla was the seafood and rice. The places that I tried hamburgers and hot dogs were not very good. Onr of the places that I ate at was in the Buena Vista mall in the food court. Maybe there are some places that serve up a good hamburger or a hot dog, but eveidently I did not find them. Rodizios is a good place to eat at in Barranquilla also.
