Colombia exports oil?

Is Colombia still exporting oil? If so, they must be making out like banditos these days, with the price of oil going thru the roof. Is there an oil-rich region of Colombia?

well...sure Yeah, Colombia exports oil but the bandidos are the American Oil Companies. Colombia gets a real shitty percentage/royalties for their own oil.

The corrupt gov't over the years pretty much sold Colombia's future for their own gain. In this situation, I've got to hand it to Chavez...

Have you seen the prices of gas in Colombia..? They rival ours!

Also the Colombian goverment has had to (still does) offer attractive deals for the companies to explore here, because of the security situation, if they didn't make it attractive, they wouldn't have come in the past. There are plenty of other countries out there, although with the rising Oil price more will venture into Colombia regardless of the security situation.

Tinto the biggest coal mine is British I think you will find, its either Rio Tinto or BHP Billiton, which are principly British companies, that bought out Australian rivals, so still have listings on the Australian stockmarket etc.

Tinto It could well be AngloAmerican, which has its main listing in London, but I think is still headquartered in South Africa.

I'm sorry but... I'm sorry but almost all of the coal mining industry is being processed by American companies. Yes, there are many multinational companies exploiting Colombia. I was using America as an example.

Colombia, basically has allowed this to happen.

Pepster Wake up or grow up. If Colombia hadn't "allowed" this to happen, we would be in a lot worse position economically now. Hunter is correct about the security situation. If I could work in Anytown, USA, or western Europe and get a return on investment of say 15%, I would need 20% to operate in a much less secure environment. Like it or not, that's the way it works.

TomTom Perhaps, you should grow up and know your history.

Colombia wasn't always in this mess. Before narco trafficing and huge insurgency they were giving away the farm.

The recent insurgency started in the 1960s. There were many more before that. When, exactly, was Colombia giving away the farm?

I am no expert on Colombian history. But I love to learn. Teach me.
