Colombia beat Peru in a World Cup qualifier crucial to avoid elimination. However, Colombia failed to impress.
The only goal of the game was made by Falcao Garcia who, following a corner, received the ball via Cristian Zapata.
Colombia, playing in Medellin's Atanasio Giradot stadium, were able to keep the initially defensive Peruvians at a distance until the last 20 minutes of the second half when the visiting team started attacking and serious cracks started showing in the Colombian defense, giving the Peruvians serious chances.
Despite a series of attacks and four minutes extra time, the visiting team was not able to score, allowing Colombia to celebrate the full three points.

I don't even like soccer that much, but man, seeing all the Paisas uniting to hate on Peru, woulda been sweet. No matter where you go, the Korean tour bus isn't far behind. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

kenblanquito says on Jun 10, 2009, 20:20: I really should have seen that match at the stadium but had other things going on. I am pleased for Colombia but it sounds like the same old story when all Colombian strikers do not like to take the responsibility of taking a shot on goal for fear of missing. England and other countries have managers from other countries or continents; about time Colombia thought about the same.

utopiacowboy says on Jun 10, 2009, 20:49: Paraguay ended up losing 2-1 and Chile destroyed Bolivia 4-0. Unfortunately Mexico beat T&T 2-1. It looked like the altitude of Mexico City did the T&T boys in. Too bad I would have loved to see those xenophobic Mexicans lose. Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

dirt_farmer says on Jun 11, 2009, 09:19: Was anybody else taken aback by the over the top militarism on the big screen during the national anthem last night? As an American I obviously don't have much room to complain about another country's excessive nationalism or militarism. But it was nice to see my American tax dollars at work with the new Colombian Military fighter jets and helicopters. jejejeje.
