Colombia a top 10 tourist destination

The world travel guide' Lonely planet ' put Colombia as the ninth tourist destiny of 2006
The country is in the ' top 10 ' of the tourist destinations taking over Germany, that this year will be hosting the World Football. Cup
The beaches of Cartagena, the museums and restaurants of Bogota and the nature of the Coffee region have been outlined in the British diary 'The Guardian', the newspaper 'The New York Times' and the American magazine 'Sports Illustrated'. And it already news.
Also there appear provocative photographies of three beautiful models in San Pedro of Majagua, in islands of the Rosario, and it is advised the tourists that " now it is the moment " of going to Colombia.
Has it improved so much the image of the country? In agreement with Don George, world publisher(editor) of Lonely Planet, Colombia has its place well gained among the 10 best destinations of the world for 2006.

This 52-year-old man, who has been journalist and publisher(editor) of trips during the last quarter of century, made last December an annual survey among 200 journalists who write in the world for Lonely Planet.

" I said to them that they should choose three places to recommend to them our readers, we receive the answers and we did the r register of the 10 best places. These are persons who travel all the time. this is a very knowledgeable group and a very authentic list ", George said to THE TIME.
George, who has not visited Colombia, Cartagena is " spectacularly beautiful " and has a fantastic nature. " I have heard that the people are very amicable and hospitable, that Cartagena has a few pretty paved streets and a beautiful architecture. Besides, it is not expensive to travel around the country ", affirms.

The Heroic and its beaches also captivated Diane Smith, publisher(editor) of the special annual of swimming wear for the magazine 'Sports Illustrated', which in its recent issue, of last February 14, showed to the world the beauty of her models, with the sands, the sea and the San's Pedro green one of Majagua as scene).

This, due to the fact that she read a small article about the islands of the Rosario. " I called some friends in Colombia and asked them if it was sure to safe. They said to me that there would no be problem and 12 persons we were 10 days in San Pedro of Majagua " told Smith to this diary. " The people were very nice; the beaches, beautiful; and the rice with coconut, wonderful ", added.

Colombia is an exquisite place, has a great passion. There is so much artistic and cultural wealth ", assures Jeanne Beker, editor of the magazine.

She remained five days in the city and she affirms that she would be charmed to return to spend a few vacations there. Something that George, from his office in Oakland, California affirms that he plans to do.

" Now I have many desires of going to Colombia ",he says. He does not also want to lose the opportunity to visit one of 10 better tourist destinies of the world.

This is kind of like when will women be equal to men....when a female president is elected, and then, I'm still not sure it will be enough.

In short, when people think of tourism FIRST when the name Colombia comes up (say, with Costa Rica) and NOT drugs, then what you are saying will be true. But that will take some time...and new generations of tourists that are oblivious to Pablo Escobar or drug cartels. In fact, movies are still perpetuating that same image a decade later.

Utopiacowboy Don't you think that maybe that is the reason you get too many unwanted PM's. If you continue to say or to wish the death to one group of people. "Prefiero sin turistas. Muerte para los gringos!"

Good press This might be the most important list published by Blue Planet. Some seem to think it the premier provider of travel information. As noted in the article, these recommendations were made by people with extensive travel experience.

What I find most interesting, Monpirri, is the fact that you think I am serious with my "muerte para los gringos!" cry. It's a sarcastic comment on the attitudes held by many posters here. I like to read the many unflattering comments about gringos on the Solo en Espanol forum.

I don't think any of them have validity and I've said as much. The same kinds of stupid generalizations made by gringos about Colombians are made there in Spanish about gringos. It's always harder to walk the walk than it is to talk the talk. What gets me is they think gringos are too stupid to read Spanish.

So should the gringos start writing in Pig Latin? Reminds me of when we used to call the frogs gorfs growing up in Montreal. Were we so stupid that we thought they couldn't figure that out sooner or later?

The problem within the last couple of days does not have to do with Gringos. The PM was not caused by "Gringos"
Let's not focus now on a topic that it not related at all, we have anti-Colombian feeling here, and the Gringo or Gringos are not the problem!
